What's new at the library

The Big Winter Read

Winter Reading Bingo continues until January 23rd, so if you haven't started your bingo sheet there's still time!

Come pick up a copy at the library or print one out here. Each bingo will get you a raffle ticket to win one of our grand prizes. For their first bingo, Children 0-12 will also get to choose between a Personal Pan Pizza from Pizza Hut, or a Chik-fil-A kids' meal!

Let's make this a winter of reading!

Meet the new Youth Librarian

We're glad to welcome a new Librarian to lead our Children's and Teen departments.

Lauren has 19 years of experience working with children and teens from Central Indiana's public schools and after-school programs. She loves sharing books, crafts, and creative learning opportunities. She's looking forward to meeting families, supporting storytimes and teen programs, and helping young patrons discover their next favorite book!

Let's Talk About It - A New Semester!

It's time for a new theme in the library's longest-running discussion and lecture series! This spring we'll be reading books connected to the 250th Anniversary of American Independence.

Check out your copy of "Founding Brothers" for our first meeting, lead by Philip Brown from the University of Notre Dame.

Magazine and CD Sale

Starting January 5th, we're holding a pop-up sale of CDs and old issues of magazines in the library!

CDs will be $0.50 each and magazines will be $0.10. First come first serve, while supplies last; the sale will run all week long. All funds raised will go to our Friends of the Library group.

Greencroft Art Program

In January we'll be starting a new monthly art program at the Greencroft Assisted Living Facility!

Each month will be a different art project or medium, with our first month being silhouette tape paintings.

All adults are welcome, and you do not have to be a Greencroft resident to attend. Please sign up either at the library or the Greencroft community center.

Pages & Pints

Starting in the new year, our monthly choose-your-own-book club will meet at a new restaurant on a new day!

Mark your calendars for every fourth Tuesday at 5:30pm, and join us at Bronko's Restaurant.

Our first meeting will be on January 27th and the theme will be any book published in 2025.

Red Rising

by Pierce Brown

Recommended by Kayla

"I live for the dream that my children will be born free," she says. "That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them."

"I live for you," I say sadly.

Eo kisses my cheek. "Then you must live for more."

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he toils in mines all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for their children's children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow--and Reds like him--are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity's overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society's ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.
