Shining the light on great work underway around the Northfield Promise benchmarks!
Student Data Summit
As Carrie Duba, Northfield Public Schools' School Psychologist, researched the measuring of social emotional learning in older students, she came upon a program implemented by the Washoe County School District in Nevada. The large district wanted its students to understand that the data collected about them was reviewed, shared and used to make improvements with and for the students’ benefit. Duba enthusiastically shared the ideas she learned with Hope Langston, Director of Assessment Services for Northfield Public Schools. On September 23, they worked with Northfield Promise to host the first Youth Data Summit.Students were excited! Read why here.
Northfield Public Schools Launches New Literacy Curriculum
According to Mary Grace Hanson, Northfield Public Schools' Director of Teaching and Learning, the new elementary literacy curriculum was motivated by “too many kids that we are not reaching” with literacy education. Teachers from all three elementary school buildings began meeting a year and a half ago, studying various possibilities and reviewing three curricula in depth. By the end of the year, the group had chosen Collaborative Classroom, which the school district has begun implementing this fall.See the positive results teachers are reporting.
Studer Project with Northfield Public Schools
New to Northfield Public Schools this year is a partnership with Studer Education,
backed by the StriveTogether Accelerator Fund. The district will work with Studer to adopt a districtwide continuous improvement approach over a three-year timespan. In the first year, the focus will be on district leaders and key adopters. In the second year, the focus will move to the school building level. Learn more here.
