As you may have heard, there is a proposal for an offshore Boat Race in August 2021. The โ€œSteering Committeeโ€ is seeking public input and feedback and encouraging questions to be asked in order to appropriately move forward and gauge the community support for this event.
They are inviting all to please take this survey as a start. Following the survey, if approved by the Village, the committee will hold some FAQโ€™s and Q&A Zoom Sessions.
The race is proposed to take place August 18-21st in Elk Rapids. Though the dates range for multiple days, the proposed race events and schedule is attached. The estimated economic impact would be 1.5+ million dollars. The anticipated crowd size is estimated around 5,000-7,000

Congress passed, and the President signed, legislation in late December to extend the federal unemployment insurance programs created under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). Among other things, the bill provides an additional $300 a week to those who qualify for unemployment insurance in their state through March 13, 2021.

National Use Your Gift Card Day reminds Americans to use the $1 billion in gift cards left unused each year. On the third Saturday in January, take stock of the gift cards you received over the holidays. Make the most of each one of them before theyโ€™re forgotten for good!
We all do it. Stash away gift cards thinking we will have more time later to use them. They collect dust and disappear into an abyss somewhere. We discover them as we clean and often donโ€™t remember how much was on the card or if we used a portion of it. Those partial balances add up, too!  The first step is to collect the cards together and see what you have. You know where to look.
  • Every pocket of every purse and wallet you have
  • The infamous junk drawer
  • Glove compartment of the car
  • Bottom of the toy box (it may have been used to scrape goo off a toy)
  • The other junk drawer
  • A gift bag with the tissue paper still in it
  • The toolbox (we know what happens when a flathead screwdriver canโ€™t be found)

Greetings TARTans,
I started to write this note Wednesday afternoon, planning on sharing a lighthearted new year message. But I had to stop as I watched in disbelief at what was unfolding in our nation's capital. I don't consider this communication a platform to share political views and perspectives, but it is a way for me to reach out to you all on a personal level and share in the joys and, sometimes, the sorrows that we experience together. At TART I'm proud to work with so many diverse groups and leaders with multiple viewpoints as we all strive toward the shared goal of happy, healthy, resilient communities......Continue Reading

Re: Greetings from Raven Hill!

Hello, Everyone!
Since we are spending a lot of time at home these days, I thought it might be a perfect time to share Smallville with everyone. Raven Hill was on the cutting edge of the tiny house movement. In 2010, the Center was awarded a grant for Art and Architecture (aka Smallville) from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Along with support from local foundations, businesses, and individuals, our little village came to fruition. Raven Hill invited emerging artists, teachers, and professional artists to create miniature homes (18โ€ or less) for the town of Smallville, so named for Supermanโ€™s hometown. Artistic creations ranged from realistic to historic to fantasy......Continue Reading
