New Mallory Street Bridge Opens to Traffic

Traffic shift onto new half of Mallory Street Bridge began this evening

HAMPTON – Another milestone for the HRBT Expansion Project as crews complete the first half of the new Mallory Street Bridge in Hampton. To accommodate phase two, eastbound and westbound traffic on Mallory Street Bridge was shifted to the newly constructed bridge beginning Friday, July 26, 2024.

This shift will allow traffic to continue to flow while crews demolish and rebuild the remainder of the old bridge. Ongoing construction includes new earthen retaining walls, signals, drainage, and pavement, in addition to new pedestrian and bike lanes.

Motorists are urged to remain alert when driving in this area.

All construction schedules are subject to change due to impending weather or other unexpected circumstances. Construction updates and lane closure alerts can be found at HRBTexpansion.org.

Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to use caution when traveling near work zones. Before hitting the road, consider using VDOT's free 511 Virginia traffic tools, or the free 511-integrated Waze GPS app, to check for the most up-to-date road and travel conditions. VDOT’s 511Virginia.org website and mobile app offer information about construction, traffic, incidents, and congestion, as well as access to traffic cameras, weather-related impacts and more.
