New Managing Partner To Lead MMA & Co.
|
Ron Austin, CPA, has been elected by his partners to fill the role of managing partner as
Mike Moyski, CPA, prepares for his retirement in December. Ron assumes the role Sept. 1.
"The firm has experienced tremendous growth since Ron joined the firm in 1996," said Mike. "Ron's contributions and his commitment to the team, as well as his technical and management skills, all support this transition. We are confident that, with our succession plan firmly in place, Ron is the ideal leader to help take the company to the next level."

|
Prior to joining MMA & Co., Ron owned an accounting practice in Glen Ellyn for five years. He also worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. in Chicago where he began his accounting career. Ron met Mike at a
Wheaton Chamber of Commerce event when they served on a panel together. Ron then joined the firm as a manager in 1996, and in 1999 he was made a partner. Ron specializes in tax strategies for businesses, trusts and individuals, and he brings expertise in multi-state taxation.

|
Many of Ron's commitments have revolved around the community involvement that is central to the values of MMA & Co. He has served on the board of the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, where he was treasurer, and the Ambassadors Club which he led as past chairman. Ron is past president and former treasurer of
CASA of DuPage and he served on the board of the
Friends of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. He's an active member and past president of the
Lion's Club of Wheaton.
In 2015 Ron was honored by the Wheaton Chamber with the prestigious

Our new managing partner had this to say about stepping into his role: "We are well-poised for exponential growth," Ron said. "Following our former leaders Mike Moyski and Jim Mathieson, I am excited about what the future holds. We plan to continue to leverage our experience and technology, investing in our talented team members who are the key to our growth."
Ron and his wife Kim live in Wheaton and have three children: Luke, Claire and Leah. When he isn't hard at work at his standing desk, taking care of clients, Ron can be found training for triathlons.

An Income Tax Update for Illinois Taxpayers
|
|
Recently we have fielded some questions about the state’s proposed graduate income tax rates. Here’s the latest news from Springfield:
In May of this year, the Illinois House of Representatives amended the state constitution to allow for a progressive income tax. The issue goes to the voters in Illinois who will be able to vote for or against graduated income tax rates. However, this will not appear on the ballot until
November 2020. If passed, the rates would become effective January 1, 2021.
The proposal would replace the existing single 4.95% rate for individuals with a six-bracket progressive income tax. Corporations would be taxed at 7.99% but could also see a graduated tax rate in the future. The changes to the tax law would also require married couples who file jointly on their federal returns to file jointly on their Illinois returns as well.
As always, we are here to answer your questions. Please contact us if you have questions about these proposed changes and how they may affect you, your family and/or your business.

From Accounting Services to QuickBooks Users
|
|
Clients who use the
QuickBooks® desktop version for payroll processing need to know that your
Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) internet password has a new shelf life. Effective September 19, a 13-month expiration policy will be implemented. That means that your password will expire 13 months after the time it was last changed (or created).
“This is important because if your EFTPS password expires, your payroll tax payment may be rejected,” said Becky Howell in our accounting services department. “In order to ensure you won’t miss a deadline, we recommend changing your password now. Then make a note to change it again before that next 13-month window expires. Be sure to update your QuickBooks with the new password.”
If you are the owner of an EFTPS account, you can learn more about how to reset your EFTPS password
here. You’ll need to have your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), PIN, and internet password. The site will walk you through changing your password, which will now increase to 12-30 characters.
If you need more information, please contact us—we’re happy to help.

Our People Make a Difference
|

One of our favorite events of the summer is the Roast & Toast, a Wheaton Chamber event for which we are a long-time sponsor. Between the food, the fun and the trivia contest (not to mention the Graham's Chocolate customized ice cream bars), the event was a delight.

Here in Wheaton you can already feel fall is in the air... but that won't stop us from enjoying these last days of summer. We relish sharing time with our staff and community at events like the Roast & Toast or the Taste of Wheaton in June which heralded the kick-off of summer.

With vacations behind us and school back in session, we're already gearing up for fourth quarter deadlines and 2020 tax season. Next week our firm reverts back to our regular office hours--8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please let us know how we can be of service to you as you look toward the end of the year.
The entire staff of Mathieson, Moyski, Austin & Co., wish you a safe and happy Labor Day!
