Report shows visitor spending supports 6,184 jobs in local economy

A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that 4,009,438 visitors to Yosemite National Park in 2018 spent $495,245,000 in communities near the park. That spending supported 6,184 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $624,129,000.

Oakhurst and Madera Community College centers get their first president

The Madera and Oakhurst Community College Centers have their first-ever on-campus president. Angel Reyna began his tenure as president of both campuses last month. Reyna comes to Madera County from Renton Technical College in Washington, where he served as vice president of instruction since 2015.

New Master Planned Community Off Highway 41 Gets Approval for Environmental Study

On Tuesday, May 14, the Madera County Board of Supervisors OK’d an agreement that will allow a consultant working for the county to do an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) on the proposed 281-acre mixed-use project just south of Tesoro Viejo between Avenues 12 and 14. Initial plans for the new development call for 769 single- and multi-family homes, with 43 acres earmarked for light industrial and 60 acres designated as open space.

CertainTeed in Chowchilla recently celebrated their 40 year anniversary with an open house.
There were several hundred people in attendance. They offered plant tours, lunch and family fun activities at the event. Plant Manager, Mark Swan also held a ceremony recognizing employees with special awards for their service to the company. To demonstrate how outstanding this manufacturing plant is they have reached the milestone of 3 million hours of no lost time due to accidents. The most current count is now 3.2 mil.

Murillo Electronics celebrates 25 years

In 1994, Martin Murillo set up shop in his garage in Madera to repair electronics. At the time, Murillo would repair TVs radios and VCRs. Murillo, now operating his business from a storefront at 113 South Lake St. in Madera, has adjusted with the times.
