January 7th Weekly Word

New Meditation for Wellbeing Series Begins

Tomorrow, January 4th

Please join us for this four-week series, as we will experience several meditation practices, using easy breathing techniques and guided imagery. These practices will help us enjoy a state of general relaxation for healing, and the promoting and sustaining of mind and body health.

Meditation is a key component of all the world’s religions, as it slows our minds and bodies and allows us to be open to the divine. This series will come from more of a health and wellness perspective. No prior meditation experience or knowledge is required.

Sessions will be held on Thursday mornings at 10am upstairs from Hadley Hall, beginning on January 4th, 2024. The meditation leader will be Karen Galipeau, a long-time Hampstead resident and friend of HCC. She draws on her personal practice with meditation, in addition to much training and coursework in a variety of mind and body techniques, as well as her professional nursing experiences over 35 years. We are grateful for her willingness to share her time and gifts in this way! We hope you will consider attending.

Irregular Office Hours

Maria, our Office Admin, is out sick. Pastor Kathy will be in and out of the office. If you need to come into the office for anything in the next week, please contact Pastor Kathy beforehand so she can make sure to be there, or arrange an alternate time.

New Closure Snow Policy

A note from Operations:

In the event of snow on a Sunday morning, please use the following as a guide:

Rule 1: Let common sense prevail. If you are not comfortable coming to church, stay home and participate via Facebook or 3CX.

Church will be cancelled if the state recommends that no one use the roads.

It has been our policy to open the church for anyone who can get there. If you are not comfortable driving, please stay home.

The Operations Team will do their best to clean the entrances.

The worship team will be in contact with Operations and will contact WMUR to post the closing of the church if necessary.

Soup Bread

Thanks from Missions

We enjoyed another wonderful Loaf and Ladle on November 12! There was quite a variety of soups – including chicken noodle, vegetarian chili, corn chowder, lasagna, sausage, minestrone, broccoli cheese and vegan butternut squash – along with some delicious home baked bread! We followed up with dessert -- many yummy brownies.

THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL COOKS AND BAKERS!

We collected over $300 from the generous offerings – which we donated to St. Anne’s Food Pantry.

THANK YOU EVERYONE

A Word from Peace & Justice

New Hampshire is in process of updating its Climate Action Plan. The last update was in 2009.

The state is seeking a portion of the $4.6 billion in federal grant to assist with implementation of

climate plans. The update with a first draft is due in March.

Part of the process is to get citizen input during 3 sessions. The second one is January 9. This

is part of the New Hampshire Listens initiative through UNH School of Public Policy.

Registration links can be found here for engagement meetings on the state’s new climate plan.

Blankets for Project Linus

For those of you who have been busy sewing, quilting, knitting, or crocheting, we have an new opportunity to donate those handmade items!

We located a national organization that has local chapters called Project Linus (https://www.facebook.com/projectlinussouthwestnewhampshire/). This organization's mission is "to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans". Blankets are given to children in need through NH.

*We welcome all styles of blankets made in child-friendly colors/prints.
*Crocheted, knitted, quilted (100% cotton or flannel), fleece….you don’t have to be an expert!
*Blankets must be NEW, HANDMADE and WASHABLE.
*Fabric blankets can be quilted by machine, hand or tied. If you are tying the blanket make sure the ends are trimmed to 1” and the knots are secure.
*Please do not add any embellishments to the blankets such as buttons that could be swallowed by a child.
*If you are using a no-sew fleece pattern, please be sure to trim off both selvages FIRST. Not sure what selvages are? Ask the clerk who is cutting your fleece to please show you, they’re those odd looking edges at the top and bottom of the piece you have, sort of raggy looking.
*We accept all sizes of blankets. We donate to children, infants through teen years, so any size is appropriate. Baby blankets are typically 36”X36” or 36”X42”, toddler-pre-teen are typically about 40”X60”, and teen blankets are at least 60"X72".

Blankets can be dropped off in the entry way of Hadley Hall.

Thank you for your support of this project!
