Every month, the AHA Insider showcases one of our employees. We want to give our readers an insight as to who works for AHA and what they do for the association.
Atanas Siakolov
I have been a Java Programmer at the Business Development Department at AHA for a little more than 3 months now. I absolutely love my job as I get to play with code and solve riddles on a daily bases.
I moved from Sofia, Bulgaria, to Mount Vernon, Iowa, to study Computer Science at Cornell College. While there I also majored in Economics and Business.
In my free time I like staying active by going to the gym, hiking or disc golfing.

Regional Youth Team Tournament
As this year concludes, so does the Annual Regional Youth Team Tournament (RYTT). However, lucky for you, we've already started the 2017 RYTT!
For just $10.00, you and your team of six people or fewer, can earn points and win prizes by doing things you already love: showing and riding your horse! Points, earned from both recognized and non-recognized shows and rides, lead to great year-end awards for the high scoring team in each region. In addition to these awards, regional winners are posted on the AHA Youth webpage and in
Arabian Horse Life magazine. Contact your RYTT Secretary and get a team together today!
Entries Due February 1.
Scholarships - over $30,000 available!

Darley Awards Around the Corner
With the close of the 2016 racing season, all eyes from the global Arabian racing community now are turning toward this year's Darley Awards, the annual black-tie award ceremony recognizing the top Arabian racehorses of 2016 under the lights of the historic Dolby Theatre (home of the Academy Awards) in Hollywood, California, Friday evening, March 31. All who are passionate about the Arabian horse are welcome to attend. No admission charge is taken; only an RSVP is required.
The evening begins with a walk down the red carpet that is live streamed around the world, followed by the walk up the steps into the Dolby Theatre for a presentation on par with the Oscars... which takes place only weeks prior and sets the stage for the Darley Award experience.
The fun continues on Saturday, April 1 at nearby Santa Anita Park racetrack with the $100,000 Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Darley Stakes, the featured race on the day's card and one of the richest Arabian racing purses of the year.
The Darley Awards were founded by the Arabian Racing Cup in 1987 to honor the best in Arabian horse racing. In 2012, the Arabian Racing Cup and the HH Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival joined together to promote this prestigious event. The award ceremony now consists of two parts:
- The Darley Awards recognizing the best Arabian racehorses in the United States in 2016
- The HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak International Awards, recognizing international females (both humans and horses) in Arabian racing.

Members Tales
One Little Arabian Horse Had A Lasting Impression On One Family Which Would Change Their Lives Forever
Arabian horses mean different things to a variety of people.
To
one family, their Arabian horse "Kazi" was the glue that held the family together and helped garner so many memories through the years. Kazi meant so much to the family, that after his passing, owner Robbie Hill decided to write a small story about the years with the beloved Arabian horse and gave the booklet to his family for Christmas one year. To read the booklet, click
here
.
"
But for us, and this horse, the versatility went beyond deciding which discipline to ride. He was a FAMILY horse. He was my strong and brave champion, our family's therapist, our little ones' caretaker and the love of our lives - and so much more. There should be a bigger and better word than versatile. It doesn't mean a lot to those who didn't know him, but the only word I have for that is Kazi.
" --Robbie Hill
