What season begins after the summer season? Chamber member Mount Sinai Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health says believe it or not, it is the flu season. Here are some tips on flu prevention.

GET FLU VACCINATION

  • The flu vaccination decreases: the chance of getting the flu; the severity of the flu illness; the number of doctors’ visits, days of missed work and school due to the flu; and kids’ chances of dying from the flu.
  • Flu shots do not give you the flu.

WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP AND WATER FREQUENTLY

  • Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue and discard it after use.
  • Use a hand sanitizer if water and soap are not available.

STAY AWAY FROM SICK CONTACTS

  • If you get the flu, stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone.
