The Mental Health Block Grant (MHBG) is allocated from the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide mental health services to adults with Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Children with Serious Emotional Disturbances (SED) and individuals experiencing First Episode Psychosis (FEP). MHBG funds are used to ensure access to a comprehensive system of care.
Effectively immediately, providers whom have received MHBG allocations for FY19 and hereafter, must utilize a
modifier for MHBG-related encounters. MHBG funds are only to be used for allowable services identified in the AHCCCCS Covered Behavioral Health Services Guide and AMPM Exhibit 300-2B. Restrictions of MHBG funds are outlined within AMPM Policy 320-T.
Providers must ensure the persons receiving these services are known to Mercy Care RBHA so claims may be adjudicated appropriately. This means providers are expected to check eligibility and submit the appropriate transactions as necessary.
- Non-Title (NT) enrollments are intended for persons not enrolled with any contractor, but otherwise eligible for publicly funded behavioral health services. These are submitted through Provider Intake by using the Member Search screen.
- Crisis/State-Only notifications are for cases where the member is enrolled with some other plan. This is effectively a tool to notify Mercy Care of the member so that we can request their detail from the State and administer the limited crisis/state-only benefits.
As always, don't hesitate to contact your Mercy Care Provider Relations Representative with any questions or comments. You can find this notice and all other provider notices on our
Mercy Care website
Thanks for all you do!
