Meet Saoirse Zucker-Malone, a junior at King School who has made a significant impact through her volunteer work with JFS. Since starting last spring, she has been actively involved in tutoring, primarily focusing on Math and English, and assisting with various events like Back-to-School and World Refugee Day.
Saoirse’s dedication became particularly evident when she decided to work directly with a refugee child. Matched with an 11-year-old boy, they’ve been meeting every Sunday at Ferguson Library to work on his math skills. The child’s brother shared, “He is making significant strides, and it’s very encouraging to see. Thank you, Saoirse, for helping him achieve this.”
Coming from a family primarily composed of refugees, Saoirse feels a personal connection to her volunteer work. Reflecting on her experience, she noted, “It's been hugely rewarding working with people from diverse backgrounds and being able to support their transition.” Her commitment exemplifies the incredible impact young volunteers can have in their communities.
