Strengthening Community Mental Health Support

The Bennett Center for Behavioral Health is pleased to announce that Benson Casimir, LMSW, will serve as our new Community Mental Health Specialist. With extensive experience in providing mental health support to communities in need, he specializes in working with the Haitian community, offering counseling in both English and Haitian Creole.

Benson will support the growing needs in Stamford public schools by providing individual and group therapy to students in new arrivals classrooms, as well as to the broader student population. Additionally, he will offer counseling support to individuals and families at the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford and Building One Community. His ability to create trusting relationships and advocate for under-resourced systems makes him an excellent community mental health liaison. If you or someone you know needs support, please email the Bennett Center for Behavioral Health or call 203-622-1881.

Meet Saoirse Zucker-Malone, a junior at King School who has made a significant impact through her volunteer work with JFS. Since starting last spring, she has been actively involved in tutoring, primarily focusing on Math and English, and assisting with various events like Back-to-School and World Refugee Day.

Saoirse’s dedication became particularly evident when she decided to work directly with a refugee child. Matched with an 11-year-old boy, they’ve been meeting every Sunday at Ferguson Library to work on his math skills. The child’s brother shared, “He is making significant strides, and it’s very encouraging to see. Thank you, Saoirse, for helping him achieve this.”

Coming from a family primarily composed of refugees, Saoirse feels a personal connection to her volunteer work. Reflecting on her experience, she noted, “It's been hugely rewarding working with people from diverse backgrounds and being able to support their transition.” Her commitment exemplifies the incredible impact young volunteers can have in their communities.

Building Connections for JFS Youth Clients

Last week, Future 5 in Stamford welcomed some of our recently arrived high school students for an Open House, hosted by their student ambassadors!

The night kicked off with an interactive "Get to Know You" bingo game—great icebreaker. Students then split into small groups to discuss life in the U.S., with stories and laughter all around.

The ambassadors also shared the services Future 5 offers and the steps to join. Huge thanks to Future 5 for creating a space for connection, support, and opportunity!
