Steel Coil Cars are specialized freight cars designed to carry rolls of sheet metal for industrial use. Early examples debuted in the 1960s, and today the cars are a common sight on freight trains across North America. These new additions to our N Scale line feature a newly tooled chassis, two prototypical hood styles replicating both early and more recent designs, and a load of six removable “steel” coils that can be placed in the prototypical cradles within the cars for realistic operation.

New Paint Schemes for N Scale 50' Reefers

Look for two additions to our N Scale 50' Steel Reefer series arriving in late spring 2025! These include the iconic FGE "Solid Cold" scheme and the Canadian National "Beef" promotional scheme! True to the prototype, the CN car features the Beef graphic on one side, while the other side features a stylish silver and blue scheme. This car complements our CN "Newsprint" boxcar and CN "Demonstrator" cylindrical hopper which appeared on the same real-life promotional train in 1971.
