New Orleans Pelicans
Award
Clearwater Sanctuary for Protecting our State Bird!!!
Game Time, Saturday, March 26th, 4pm
Award Ceremony at Halftime
As a Clearwater Wildlife Educator and Rehabilitator, Nancy Torcson, has shared the joy of the good natured pelican with thousands of children. This bird lost a wing and was unable to return to the wild. It has served as an ambassador of her species, delighting many with her comical personality and benevolent disposition.
To accept the Award from the New Orleans Pelicans on behalf of Clearwater and our founder, Nancy Torcson, are three of Clearwater's dedicated wildlife rehabilitation interns, Carly Rieder, Ruby Kelsey, and Holly Rochelle Ladnier. They hold all the promise of our next generation of Clearwater to compassionately serve our native Louisiana wildlife and environment.
These pelicans from the BP Oil Spill disaster were rehabilitated at Clearwater Sanctuary after initial processing at the Venice BP facility. Those too injured to be released back to the wild were placed in zoos across the country to bring awareness of the effects of oil spills on marine birds.
Clearwater Sanctuary is humbled and grateful that the New Orleans Pelicans have chosen us to receive this meaningful award for pelican conservation. We share this honor with the whole Clearwater rehabilitation team, and all others receiving this award for playing their part in protecting pelicans. Through our combined efforts, the pelican has moved from threatened to thriving. Rehabilitation and conservation efforts made by many working together can make a big difference for wildlife. Thank you to the New Orleans Pelicans and the Humane Society of Louisiana for spotlighting these efforts.
