New PLS Course Offerings

With current industry trends as well as feedback we've received from you, we are considering adding 2 never before offered courses:

  • PLS-POLE Course - A short class that focuses specifically on the use of PLS-POLE to design, build, and analyze pole structures. Everything from 7.2kV wood distribution poles to joint use and make ready designs to 345kV tubular steel H-Frame transmission structures.

PLS-POLE Interest and Topic Survey

  • LiDAR Import with PLS-CADD - A class on importing LiDAR into PLS-CADD, classifying it, building structures and wires to match LiDAR data and create a digital twin model. Using that model to perform vegetation clearance analyses and thermal rating functions to meet FERC Order 881 and develop ambient adjusted ratings.

LiDAR Import with PLS-CADD Interest and Topic Survey

We are seeking your input on the interest and topics to be covered for these courses. If either or both of these courses are of interest to you, please fill out the surveys from the links above. These quick surveys will allow us to develop the course structure and content to ensure we are hitting on the topics you would want and expect these courses to deliver. This is your chance to shape these exciting new courses!

Introductory – TOWER: Analysis and Design of Transmission Towers Using the TOWER Software (includes 16 PDHs)

October 23rd-27th, 2023 - Madison, WI

This online variant of our in-person course is a streamline version focusing how to use TOWER to model steel lattice structures, whether for construction of new lattice tower lines, analysis of existing towers or upgrading of existing towers. The course examples will utilize real life structure fabrication drawings and cover implementing provisions of the ASCE 10-15 design standard. It will be a lecture and assignment style format as opposed to the more guided hands-on approach our in-person course offers, but will still give students the opportunity to learn the software through using it to complete hands–on project assignments.

Other Resources: Webinars / Videos / Technotes

Training courses are the most efficient way to gain proficiency with the software, but there are many other free resources available to help you gain a deeper understanding of how to effectively use PLS software. Check out some of our pre-recorded webinars, YouTube videos, and technical notes.

Webinars

We currently have 12 webinars you can access on various specific topics. Each webinar is approximately 90 minutes so there is almost 18 hours of training webinars users can access for free within the software whenever they would like. All you need to access the webinars is a current license and latest version of the software. Simply navigate to Help/Register for Training Classes… and use the drop down menu to choose the desired webinar topic.

YouTube Videos

Our YouTube channel, has over 70 videos with a combined footage length of over 10 hrs. These YouTube video demonstrate various features to describe their functionality and how you can use them in your designs. These videos are meant to showcase the highlights of features and give a basic overview of their application in your designs.

Technical Notes

Our Technical Notes page, has over 70 documents that go into detail on how you can utilize the software to accomplish various tasks instead of simply explaining what the inputs and outputs are for various features. Many of the documents posted are PDF files that contain clickable buttons for downloading example project files to work through using the tech note as a guide.
