Call for Members: Consider Joining SPD's New Pediatric Dermatology Inpatient SIG
SPD is pleased to announce the formation of the Pediatric Dermatology Inpatient Special Interest Group (SIG)! Over the past decade, the field has recognized the unique and critical role dermatologists play in hospitalized patient care. Our mission is to provide a similar community for pediatric dermatologists who deliver consultative services through education, research, and organizational support.

Opportunities to solicit input regarding challenging cases will be offered via a Listserv and regular video conferencing. We hope to develop educational tools for trainees and non-dermatologists to improve the care of common dermatologic issues faced in the emergency room, neonatal intensive care unit, and hospital wards.

This Inpatient SIG will implement an investigator group to research current gaps in knowledge. Examples include proper biopsy technique in extremely premature neonates, the evaluation and care of patients with severe drug eruptions, and early identification of disseminated infection in the immunocompromised child.

SPD will also collaborate with the Society for Dermatology Hospitalists and strategize on up-and-coming issues faced by the field, such as reimbursement for services and incorporating teledermatology into a consultative service.

Passionate about inpatient pediatric dermatology? Want a voice at the table?

Please contact Kashie Oza or Sarah Cipriano with your interest to join by April 15.

It is anticipated this group will start working virtually over the Spring and meet in-person at the SPD Annual Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina this July.
