Just Arrived: Venus Fly Traps

Venus flytraps, botanically known as Dionaea muscipula, are fascinating carnivorous plants native to the wetlands of the Carolinas. Their unique trap-like leaves, triggered by sensitive hairs, snap shut on contact with unsuspecting insects that are attracted by their sweet nectar. Once captured, the plant secretes digestive enzymes to break down the insect prey, which provides essential nutrients in their nutrient-poor habitats.

Venus Fly Traps are easy to grow as long as they have sunlight and are watered with distilled water. Being bog plants, they also prefer sitting in a water-filled saucer. Venus Fly Traps are fun plants for kids!
