Greetings!
Thank you for taking a moment to look at current market conditions for professionals considering changing positions. The national unemployment rate for the United States dropped to 3.6% with 431,000 additional positions being created in March 2022! Which is outstanding!
Drilling down to the technical and professional management positions like engineers or 4 year Degreed professionals, the national unemployment rate for a 4 year Degreed engineer of any type is 2.2% and the average raise an engineer received this past 12 months was 5.9%! The unemployment rate for professionals with a 4 yr. college degree is already down to 3.1%.The amount of positions being advertised nationwide is up to over 11.1 million. Typically, not all of the positions will be filled, however, 1/3 should be filled in the next 3-6 months. That would be roughly 3.5 million more people going to work in the U.S. before Thanksgiving 2023. That would bring the national unemployment rate down to less than 3.0%.
Over the last year, the amount of new people filing unemployment claims has dropped from between 725,000-800,000 per week to around 200,000-230,000. Normal before the pandemic and the previous 20 years was between 220,000-400,000 with a recession being of concern around 325,000 per week. Inflation is a huge concern on the horizon as a recession usually follows within 18-24 months after the inflation rate goes above 5% annually.
