This year marks Taiyo America, Inc.'s 30th year!  We thank you for your continued business, support, and loyalty. We look forward to bringing you continued Unmatched Innovation for many years to come!

Congratulations and Thank you!

Finally, 2020 is coming to an end. This is normally a time to rejoice and spend quality time with your family and loved ones. Unfortunately, many of us will be quarantining ourselves to prevent further spreading. As I reflect on the past 12 months, I realized what a great job all of you, our customers, have accomplished this year. I could write for days if I went through each of them one by one but in whole you all had a quite an amazing year.

When the pandemic first took hold, no one was quite sure what was going to happen. Were PCB manufacturers going to shut down and add to the economic woes? No, we were fortunate enough to be essential suppliers, building the needed electronics for the front-line workers to combat this virus. Many of you amazed us by moving forward and pushing technology especially in the world of solder mask.

Taiyo was lucky to be a part of a year to see inkjet solder mask finally get into production. We saw enormous growth with DI solder mask. We also saw a large spike in flexible solder mask products. As our industry looks to get better, again, you our customer, invested in new equipment to stay ahead. Beyond purchasing new equipment, we have heard of great news from some of you that are expanding their manufacturing and some of you are building new factories. Keep this going!

At Taiyo we have an entire group of engineers and chemists working to develop that next extreme solder mask solution. Our goal is to outperform our current PSR-4000 CC01SE which handles hot storage of 180°C for 2,000 hours, by offering our next generation solder mask, which achieves 200°C for 2,000 hours. We are pushing the limits to meet these extreme conditions. Our team has spent many months developing such a product so that our customers might enjoy an early Christmas gift with this new solder mask. As you would expect from any new Taiyo product, we will get all our testing done including IPC-SM840E, UL listing and physical property so we can be off and running to present it to the market.

For 2021, Taiyo will promise you as a reward for your incredible year that we too will push the envelope on technology and introduce some new products. We have on tap some new solder mask products as well as a new via fill product and who knows what is next with inkjet, just wait and see. Until then, we wish you the happiest holiday and safe new year. We look forward to seeing you in 2021.

At Taiyo, we congratulate you and thank you for pushing the technology and trusting us to deliver the products. We took great measures to make sure we had plenty of raw materials and finished products to support our home base of customers in North America and diligently worked closely with our European distributors to make sure there was plenty of product in their warehouses.

Stay safe and healthy!

Year End Review of the European Market -
An Overview of the Economy

Interruption of the economic recovery - resurgence of the pandemic leads to increased uncertainty. The COVID-19 pandemic is an extraordinary shock to EU and global economies and has serious economic and social consequences. However, the resurgence of the pandemic in recent weeks is causing economic disruption as national authorities introduce new public health measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. Many European countries reacted with a small or partial lockdown at the end of the year and into January 2021. In some countries, such as Austria or Germany, curfews and meeting bans are back in force.

The year-end forecast for 2020 assumes that the euro zone economy will shrink by 7.8% in 2020 and grow by 4.2% in 2021 and 3% in 2022. The EU economy as a whole is expected to shrink by 7.4% in 2020, with growth of 4.1% in 2021 and 3% in 2022. According to the forecast, the unemployment rate in the euro zone is expected to rise from 7.5% in 2019 to 8.3% in 2020 and 9.4% in 2021 and to fall to 8.9% in 2022. Great Britain is facing enormous challenges. The economy has suffered a massive slump. The central bank is expecting an unprecedented economic slump in GDP for the whole of 2020 of 11%. And the Brexit has not even started yet.

According to the forecast, the general government deficits in the euro zone will increase from 0.6% of GDP in 2019 to around 8.8% in 2020 and then fall to 6.4% in 2021 and 4.7% in 2022. This is in line with the expected gradual phasing out of emergency aid measures in the course of 2021 as the economy recovers. In line with the increase in deficits, the forecast assumes that the euro zone's total debt ratio will rise from 85.9% of GDP in 2019 to 101.7% in 2020 and further to 102.3% in 2021 and 102.6% in 2022.

December can work like also January in each case only as one 3-week-month. Christmas is celebrated in Western Europe mainly in December. In many parts of Eastern Europe, Russia or Greece, the Orthodox Christmas (besides Father Frost and Sochelnik) is celebrated at the beginning of January. Many companies and production companies take these holidays into account and close their companies and production from December 23 to January 10, 2021. However, there is no uniform regulation and can vary from country to country or region to region.

In many countries, Santa Claus comes around December 6 and gives presents to good children. In Spain, adults need a little luck on December 24th to get a gift. After the banquet, all the members of the family draw from the urn of destiny, a raffle that includes small presents as well as rivets. Traditionally, the actual presents are only given on January 6th. Since 1812, most Spaniards have followed the drawing of the Christmas lottery (Sorteo extraordinario de Navidad) on the morning of December 22nd. Every year, the largest winning amount in the world seeks a happy owner. The Advent season in the Austrian Alps could be spooky instead of contemplative when you meet Krampus, the evil companion of Santa Claus. Both are on the road on the night of December 6. But while St. Nicholas gives good children mandarins, nuts or chocolate, the horned Krampus punishes the bad children and sometimes also the bad adults.

See you! Take care!

Not on the Road

Once again, I hope you are all safe and healthy.

Just the other day I sat back and thought, where didn't I go the past nine months that I normally would have gone. I was taken back when I realized the places, people, and activities that I didn't get to experience and enjoy for work as I once had. The list was even more daunting when I thought again and added in the personal outings that were missed.

The EIPC summer conference in 2020 was to be held in Stockholm, Sweden. I was in Stockholm once before and it was fantastic! The MCA and the CCBA have annual golf tournaments in August and September, missed them both! Two sales meetings were virtual instead of face to face. These meetings are a few of the rare occasions for me to spend time face to face with my work colleagues. Texas, Colorado, Michigan, Nebraska, Illinois and Utah are states that I would normally visit on a regular basis. I haven't seen an OEM in so long it hurts. Delta Airlines, Holiday Inn and National rent-a-car have all sent me letters to make sure I'm OK, and to tell me how much they miss my smiling face.

My golf clubs have cobwebs and I never even took my fishing gear out of the rafters! Out of town trips with the family, GONE! The few concerts I was planning on attending this past summer were not held, thus I didn't get my music fix. On the plus side I think I wore out the tires on my bicycle and the soles of my walking shoes, which is a major plus! I've watched more movies and television series in the past nine months than I have in the past nine years! I'm guessing most of you can relate to this needed rest and relaxation. I hope you all have found some form of joy in all of this.

Until we meet again, I hope you all stay healthy and I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Meet Taiyo-America's
Newest Sales Team Member - Kate Han

Dan: Kate, good to meet you. Tell us a little about yourself, what is your background?

Kate: I have worked in professional sales for seven years. I am joining Taiyo after spending the past year at Microcraft promoting their inkjet solder mask technology. Also, I am fluent in Korean, Chinese, Japanese and English.
Dan: Wow, very impressive. I am certain you are going to be a great asset to the Taiyo team. So, you come well steeped in our technology. What do you do when you're not working?

Kate: I love reading, traveling in my spare time.

Dan: what will you be doing for Taiyo America?

Kate: I will be working closely with Brian Wojtkiewicz taking care of the Western Region.
I live in Southern California.

Dan: That's great, that is certainly where the action is when it comes to PCB Technology. So obviously with your skills and talents and language mastery you could have chosen any number of companies to work for. Why Taiyo? What do you like about the company so much that you wanted to become a part it?

Kate: I was always impressed with the success of Taiyo, especially the strong relationships they have with their customers. I want to learn and contribute towards continual growth of the company since they are the true global leader when it comes to solder mask. I also love the mixture of Japanese and American culture. Taiyo America has the blend of great Japanese Quality products
and American innovation and customer relationships.

Dan: What do you enjoy most about your work?

Kate: My favorite aspect of my work is being able to meet customers. I feel there is so much I can learn from them.

Dan: Will you be selling specific Taiyo products or the entire portfolio?

Kate: I will be selling specifically will be solder mask for inkjet. There are other products as well such as thermal-cool management solutions, via hole fill, gap filling and photo-imageable cover layer film.

Dan: How do you think companies like Taiyo help their customers?

Kate: Taiyo is always trying to make the best quality products as well as products that can increase efficiency. This is something I believe in. It is also something that companies (namely our customers) place a lot of value in, which is I think why so many of them prefer working with Taiyo products.

Dan: How do you see the PCB market right now?

Kate: PCBs have become increasingly important in the medical field, as we see during this pandemic. I believe there will be great strides made in medical electronics in the next few years and this bodes well for the PCB industry.

Dan: This last question is up to you. Is there anything you would like to say before we wrap this up?

Kate: I would like to thank Taiyo America for giving me this opportunity and honor to a part of something great. I look forward to many years of building and continuing to make strong what others in this company have built already.
