Helping Hands Healing Sanctuary is honored to share a special invitation with you

and our community to experience an award-winning documentary, Rescued Hearts— a powerful story that beautifully captures the profound connection between horses and human healing.

This moving film explores how horses help people navigate trauma, anxiety, grief, and emotional challenges — offering a window into the deeply intuitive and transformative process of equine-assisted healing. It brings to life the same heart-centered work we are doing every day here in Newberg at Helping Hands Healing Sanctuary.

This powerful documentary explores the profound and often miraculous connection between humans and horses. Through deeply moving personal stories, and heart-based research, the film explores how horses offer a space where healing and transformation can unfold.

Rescued Hearts isn't just the story of horses, it’s ultimately the story of all of us — an invitation to deeper connection with ourselves, each other, and the natural world. Come join us to view this heartwarming film!

Introducing: Mothers and the Herd

We are honored to launch a therapeutic equine-assisted group designed specifically for pregnant and postpartum mothers, and all mothers needing support!

Motherhood brings immense joy — and also vulnerability, identity shifts, anxiety, hormonal changes, and the need for support. In this grounding, nature-based program, mothers will work alongside our gentle therapy horses to:

  • Build emotional self-awareness
  • Process the transitions of pregnancy and early motherhood
  • Develop healthy coping skills
  • Feel seen, supported, and connected

Horses naturally mirror emotional states and respond without judgment, creating a powerful environment for healing and self-discovery. We are so excited to offer this safe, nurturing circle for mothers in our community.

Awards and Grants

 2025 Outstanding Horse Sanctuary Award

We are deeply honored to share that Helping Hands has received the 2025 Outstanding Horse Sanctuary of the Year Award from the JDD Claussen Family Foundation.

This award was given in loving memory of Earlene Claussen and her beloved horse, Thor.

Along with a beautiful plaque, we received a generous $5,000 check to support our mission.

We are profoundly grateful to be recognized for the healing work we do with our horses and community.

Grant Support for Breast Cancer Survivors Retreat

Grant Support for Breast Cancer Survivors Retreat

We also received an unexpected and heartfelt grant from the Yates Foundation with special thanks to Maggie Yates!

This funding will go directly toward our upcoming Breast Cancer Survivors Retreat planned for this summer.

There is something incredibly powerful about survivors standing in a pasture, breathing beside a horse, and reclaiming their strength. We are still seeking additional donations to expand these retreats and serve more women diagnosed and fighting breast cancer.

If supporting breast cancer survivors is in your heart, we would be honored by your contribution.

Year-Round Horse Shelters Almost Complete!

After years of planning and hoping, our therapy horses’ year-round shelters are nearly finished.

Thanks to grants from:

Oregon Community Foundation

and the Newberg Earlybird Rotary

And the generous donated labor of

Robert Landry from Applied Greenhouse Technologies!
