Seniors are one of the fastest-growing populations in San Luis Obispo County—nearly one-quarter of our neighbors. Yet too many struggle to keep a roof overhead, access care, or afford daily essentials. What are we doing to care for this growing population? How are we preparing to serve and support their growing needs? The data is clear; our senior population needs our help.

That’s what caught our attention at Must! We are a data-driven organization that looks to create the most positive change and impact in areas of greatest need. In the 2024 Point-in-Count survey, nearly one-third of the homeless population was over 55. Limited senior housing and high costs for living and care options put many seniors on fixed incomes in danger. Seniors express needs for support in areas such as caregiving, personal care, financial management, transportation, and navigating complex health and legal systems.

The Must! Collaborative Circle team dug in and researched nonprofits working in this arena. One in particular caught our attention, Meals That Connect. As the only provider of daily meals and wellness checks for thousands of seniors throughout San Luis Obispo County, their work is more critical than ever. With demand rising and funding shrinking, our investment ensures that Meals That Connect has the leadership and strategy needed to meet this growing challenge.

Through our new project, Strength and Stability: Leadership Development for Sustainable Senior Nutrition, Meals That Connect will sharpen its direction, grow its capacity, and create systems that safeguard long-term sustainability. This means seniors will continue receiving not just meals, but connection, dignity, and support to remain independent and safe in their homes.

When we care for our seniors, we honor the very roots of our community.

Donate today. Together, we can protect our aging neighbors—and build a stronger, more compassionate community.

With much gratitude,

Randy Gray

Director of Community Investments
