Already a worldwide success, the new Radical Cup USA is gunning to become the largest single-make racing series in the United States. With extraordinary prizes, competitive 'arrive and drive' packages, trackside support from Radical West USA and backing from two of the most exclusive circuits in the country- Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch near Las Vegas and the Monticello Motor Club of New York- it's off to a good start.
"Radical Sportcars, the largest racing car manufacturer in the world, builds the venerable 270HP SR3 and mind-blowing 460HP SR8 open-cockpit racecars that are owned by dozens of members at two exclusive country club racetracks, Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch near Las Vegas and Monticello Motor Club, just 90 minutes from New York City," explained Simon Shepard, Director for Radical West, the world's largest distributor outside of the manufacturer.
"Radical owners at these private clubs and at other racetracks around the country, as well as racers in various prototype series in non-Radicals, are clamoring for a new racing series at the professional level that is affordable, reliable, fair, and performance-driven. With Radical and the North American Road Racing Association, we now deliver the ultimate race series."
"Many of our private members own Radicals and race them in our club series. The Radical Cup USA is the logical evolutionary step for any racer, club or junior, to a professionally supported national series," added Ari Straus, President of Monticello Motor Club.
"The overall 2013 Radical Cup USA champion receives an LMP2 test with a top European Le Mans team, while each of the SR8/Coupe and SR3 class champions win a one race SR8 RX drive in the FIA sanctioned Radical Masters Euroseries.
As with Radical's UK series, the Radical Cup USA isn't just aimed at the serious gentleman driver, but at the very best talent looking to prove themselves on the world stage."
Unique to the Radical Cup, which is also highly popular in Australia, throughout Europe and the Middle East, the overall champion is derived from the competitor with the highest point score from either class, placing equal emphasis on both SR3 and SR8/Coupe drivers.
Comprising of 12 rounds over six weekends, the 2013 Radical Cup USA will visit some of the most famous sports car courses in the United States including the home of Petit Le Mans, Road Atlanta, the storied Virginia International Raceway, and the home of the world famous 'Corkscrew', Laguna Seca.
The season will commence next month at Miller Motorsports Park, Utah, on March 29-31 and conclude at the exclusive Monticello Motor Club.
Sanctioned by the North American Road Racing Association (NARRA), three of the Radical Cup USA events will coincide with weekends featuring NARRA's popular US GT Championship and SRT Viper Cup series.
"We are very pleased to have the professionalism and expertise of NARRA managing this series. They operate fantastic events, as we witnessed with the US GT Championship at Monticello last year, and will be providing vigorous technical inspections as well as high-level exposure for competitors and sponsors," said Ari Straus, President of Monticello Motor Club.
"To expand our offering to include yet another high-profile series, and a prototype series at that, shows the direction NARRA is taking. We are serious about sports car racing and creating spectacular events, and I wouldn't be surprised if that word- prototype- is mentioned again in the near future," added Rob Morrison, General Manager of the North American Road Racing Association.
Each round of the championship will be broadcast on the internet, while the final race of the 2013 Radical Cup USA will be televised.
Race weekends will feature a Friday test day, and a round each on both Saturday and Sunday comprising of practice, qualifying and a race. A set of Dunlop tires will be awarded to each class winner of every round.
Radical West USA and RPE/Powertec will provide trackside technical and spare support, while also offering turnkey 'arrive and drive' packages for less than half the price of the equivalent development prototype series.
