Saustex introduces Colored Friday!
Hey there - well, unlike the big merchants who have undoubtedly been clogging your inboxes for a solid two weeks now with Black Friday, Small Biz Saturday and Cyber Monday specials here comes Saustex rolling up a little late to the party.

There have been a few mitigating factors; allergies, tech issues and some tragedy in the extended family. But, as someone who doesn't really enjoy having my email accounts dominated by relentless pitches for things I don't want and probably don't need even if I can afford them I don't believe this delay is necessarily a bad thing.

And in the ongoing spirit of innovation and snark Saustex attempts to embody we're introducing a brand new concept in mail-order retail: Colored Friday!

What exactly IS Colored Friday you're asking...

Well, it's pretty simple actually... We're knocking 20% off the price of all our releases on limited edition colored vinyl (and keep in mind these are available exclusively from Saustex in most cases).
AND any order totaling more than $100 before shipping and handling (a flat $4.50 in the U.S., by weight outside the U.S.) will receive an additional 10% discount - a whopping 30% of our regular prices!. This offer includes the new releases mentioned below but does not extend to Hamell's artwork deals. SO - if you are interested in taking advantage of this bold new concept please send an email to: [email protected] with your selections and I will send you a PayPal invoice that includes the discount, shipping and tax if applicable. The prices below are standard, not discounted - if you're wondering about the specifics of any title please refer to our website - confused yet?!?!?!?

A PONY NAMED OLGA new album 'AVE MARIA'
Berlin's A Pony Named Olga are a truly singular act. While they are often lumped into the "psychobilly" category because the band and some of their music fit the general descriptors, the term totally shortchanges what they do musically and lyrically speaking. It's a finely tuned, hard-edged mash-up of surf, polka and rockabilly with lyrics that are thoughtful and clever (and, occasionally goofy).
Their new fourteen track album is titled 'Ave Maria' and was recorded in Berlin with Steve Wiles of The Spermbirds. The limited red vinyl in an edition of 128 copies is available for immediate delivery from Saustex and includes not only a download card but immediate access to the digital version of the album. FIREBALL COVER ART
WESTERN STAR'S new album 'ANY WAY HOW'
Western Star has a new album titled 'Any Way How' . The new record was produced by J. Robbins (of Jawbox and D.C. legends Government Issue ) at the Magpie Cage in Baltimore.

The new record marks the departure of Max Jeffers ' brother Nick Jeffers on bass with Matt Milner having become a permanent member, after filling Nick's place on the road for some time now.

The album title and title track are suggestive of Max's coming to grips with carrying the band forward in the wake of his brother's departure and the tone of the album is bittersweet and desperate - definitely a darker ride than their debut 'Fireball'.

The limited "shocking blue" edition vinyl (105 copies only) is now available for immediate delivery (includes download card) . All test pressing and limited edition vinyl orders get immediate access to the digital version of the album including one non-LP bonus track! Avoid future regret - order yours today!

Ed Hamell aka Hamell on Trial has released a special one-off album on Saustex Records titled 'The Night Guy at The Apocalypse Profiles of a Rushing Midnight' - and it's now available for immediate delivery.
The album, recorded entirely on his cell phone at locations as far-fetched as the bathroom of The Keflavik International Airport in Iceland and in his car in a parking lot in Detroit, is a rambling 13 song tale full of sex, violence, substance-abuse and revenge that is centered around a fictional tavern called The Apocalypse. Not for the faint of heart this album would probably carry at least two parental advisory warnings on the cover, if we did that sort of thing. With the permission of the good folks at Ed's label New West Records we're putting out this record on limited edition vinyl and digital only.

The record includes a digital download card and newspaper insert hand that was hand-illustrated by Ed. Additionally all mail orders will receive immediate access to the digital version of the album.

The "crime scene cleanup" clear blood-streaked vinyl is available in a limited edition of 261. For fans of Hamell's paintings we're also offering some options to purchase a painting featuring a character or locations from the album (limited to 30) along with the album OR the entire series of six paintings (limited to 5) and the album (the original art has sold and the painting deals are going quickly).

Below are the package options, listed by domestic (USA only) and international options. All prices include shipping and insurance.

for the option below please send a separate email to [email protected] with your choice of:

If there is some other possible combination or if you would like multiple items please email [email protected] and we'll do our best to accommodate your wishes and save you some money on shipping. The international shipping charges may seem onerous but they are only what we pay (there is no handling fee, per se.) We're just doing our best to get Ed paid and make a few bucks ourselves.
EVENTS! BILL LEISSNER'S AUSTIN ICONS OF THE EIGHTIES! COWPUNK XMAS PARTY AND FAREWELL TO FITZGERALD'S! MEMORIAL FOR REBEKAH BEAL AND EXHIBIT CLOSING EVENT FOR "IT'S A PLAID, PLAID, PLAID, PLAID WORLD"!
REBEKAH BEAL MEMORIAL and
THE DAVY JONES ART EXHIBIT
CLOSING EVENT SUNDAY DECEMBER 2ND 1-6PM
SOUTHPOP
AUSTIN, TEXAS
The unexpected passing of our friend Rebekah "Beky" Beal last Wednesday (November 21st, only 4 days shy of the 3rd anniversary of Davy Jones' passing) has brought about the unfortunate need to combine a couple of events.

Some of you may or may not have known Beky, but she had become a fixture in the worlds of the Hickoids and Saustex Records over the past five years when she became romantically involved and engaged to marry late Hickoids guitarist Davy Jones. The two had known each other while attending Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas in the early 1970's before reconnecting in 2013. Beky relocated to Austin from Little Rock early in 2014 but unfortunately Davy was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer almost immediately after Beky's move.

From that point onward Beky became Davy's caretaker and constant companion. Her connection with myself and the rest of the Hickoids, Davy's family and the many, many other friends she made while living in Austin cannot be understated. Her warmth and generosity of deed and spirit made the world a nicer place to live.

We're going to miss you Little Roque.

So, it seems only natural that we combine her Central Texas wake/memorial with the previously scheduled closing event for Davy's art show. (And indeed, SouthPop was the last place I would see Beky, only a month and a half ago at the opening of Davy's show.)
We're going to try and keep it as light-hearted as possible under the circumstances. Myself, Laurel Bodinus (Davy's girlfriend at the time he moved to Austin at the dawn of the 1980's) and my good friend John "Control Rat X" (author, historian and longtime friend of Jones) will take turns spinning scratchy records that Beky and Davy might have enjoyed together. Everyone is welcome and are invited to share their photographs and stories. We'll have some light refreshments on hand as well.

More on the exhibit:
"It's a Plaid, Plaid, Plaid World" is an exhibit focusing on the cartoon artwork of Davy Jones. The exhibit of over 100 works will feature Jones' pen and ink panels plus various ephemera from throughout his life and musical career (including his rolling tray!)

While known primarily as a musician from his work with the Hickoids, Ideals, Bigfoot Chester, The Dicks, The Next, The Diamond Smugglers and literally a dozen other acts - Davy began authoring and drawing his own underground comics in his late teens and his job in the U.S. Army was drawing a couple of different strips for the base newspaper.

This is the first time that many of these works will be publicly displayed, and, many of the works will be for sale. All the proceeds from the sale will be used to fund a box set of his music (Proposed title "Boot Legs") as well as hopefully one or more books of his art that will expand his legacy.

MONDAY DECEMBER 10TH
ESTHER'S FOLLIES
AUSTIN, TEXAS
On Monday, Dec. 10th, 7-10 PM, at Esther’s Follies a star-studded group of Austinites will participate in a fundraiser to underwrite printing costs for a book by photographer Bill Leissner titled Austin Icons of the Eighties: Music, Theatre, Politics. The book is scheduled for publication spring 2019 by Waterloo Press, imprint of Austin History Center Association, a nonprofit organization.

The mid-1980s were boom times for Austin economic growth, political progressivism, and culture. Photographer Bill Leissner was in the thick of it, shooting more than 100,000 images to document the scene. A technological innovator, with his homemade flash rig and loads of Tri-X film, Leissner was an imperturbable documentarian and backstage presence, documenting the luminaries of Austin music, theatre, and politics, including such icons as Ann Richards, Jake Pickle, Joe Ely, Willie Nelson, and Randy “Biscuit” Turner. Leissner also documented various projects mounted by Big State Productions, including the trailblazing stage show In the West. Leissner is also considered by many to be the inventor of the “selfie.” (And also the person who take the back cover photo of the Hickoids first album!)
