M305
ext. 7129
Move-in date: 12/8/24
Susan and Gary were both born in Oakland; their grandparents then their parents lived in the Bay Area from the early 1900s. Early in their lives, Susan and Gary moved to Contra Costa County, Susan graduating from Ygnacio Valley and Gary from Miramonte High. Susan received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley in Sociology, then earned her early childhood and elementary teaching credentials. Gary received his undergraduate degree from UC Davis in Economics, then earned his MBA in Finance from UC Berkeley.
Susan was an elementary school teacher in Oakland for nine years before taking a 13-year sabbatical as an active mom and community volunteer. She resumed teaching 2nd and 3rd grades in West San Jose for 18 more years before retiring in 2015.
Gary served in senior positions with several commercial banks for 20 years. He then built business consulting firms focusing on corporate strategy, CEO and business development, fundraising, and business planning. He retired in 2010, earlier than planned, due to a series of major health challenges. Having dodged many health bullets against long odds, he feels very blessed to be here or anywhere, in good shape spoiling his beautiful granddaughters.
Susan and Gary married in 1980. How it got to that point is a longer story. They lived in Walnut Creek, then moved to Cupertino in 1986 until moving to Moldaw. They have two great children, Aaron and Ilana, and two beautiful granddaughters, Aliya and Zoe. All thankfully live in the Bay Area.
Susan and Gary have been Congregation Beth David members since 1986. Susan has been an active volunteer, including teaching ESL to recent refugees through Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley. Gary has been a member of many Jewish and general community organizations serving on many boards including Jewish Federation. He is a Wexner Heritage Program Alumni.
Susan enjoys walking/hiking, Zumba, cooking, reading, arts & crafts, anything Jewish, and hanging out with friends and family, especially grandchildren. Gary enjoys hiking, staying fit, reading, Jewish activities, schmoozing about life, mindful breathing, and being with family and friends.
They look forward to expanding their circle of friends at Moldaw.
