Rosenberg City Council recently passed a new residential rental registration program. Owners of residential rental properties such as homes, duplexes and apartments located within the city limits are now required to register their rental properties. Existing rental properties must be registered, and the license fee must be paid by March 31, 2024.
The Residential Rental Registration Program is a step towards ensuring that all rental properties in Rosenberg comply with the City codes. The program also provides a more efficient system for tracking and contacting absentee and local landlords, when necessary. Although rental units are subject to periodic inspections to ensure program compliance, inspections are not required. A rental registration license is required for a rental residential property to obtain city utility services.
Existing rental properties must be registered, and the fee must be paid by March 31, 2024. New rental properties must be registered within 30 days of acquiring the rental property. Residential rental properties can be conveniently registered on the Rosenberg Citizen Portal. Registrations after the deadline will result in a penalty fee of one and a half times the rental application fee. The rental application fee for a single-family home is $50. The rental application fee for a multi-family complex is $10 per unit or a $50 minimum. Once registered, rental registration renewals will be required every two years. Fees will also be assessed for failure to renew the permit within ninety (90) days of license expiration.
