NOAA’s Climate-Ready Workforce for Coastal and Great Lakes States, Tribes and Territories Initiative

NOAA’s National Sea Grant College Program and Climate Program Office, with support from NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management, has selected 9 projects for funding under the Climate-Ready Workforce Initiative. The initiative, funded by the Inflation Reduction Act, is investing $50 million in projects that train and place workers in jobs that support climate resilience. The projects selected for funding focus on clean energy, nature-based solutions, green infrastructure, water management, and diverse recruitment. The Climate-Ready Workforce Virtual Symposium will be held December 3-5, 2024.

South Florida ClimateReady Tech Hub

The US Economic Development Administration recommended the South Florida ClimateReady Tech Hub to receive $19 million to implement three new projects: "Scaling advanced concrete technologies made with reduced emissions that protect environments in low-lying areas, specifically focusing on communities most affected by extreme weather events; Establishing workforce development programs that offer career pathways to diverse groups through certifications, training, and apprenticeships, supplemented with wraparound services; and

Dismantling silos within the climate and capital ecosystem to foster collaboration among government, climate justice advocates, startups, corporations, capital partners, and academia."
