New School Weekly Update

October 14 - 18, 2024

Welcome to your weekly source of updates, news, and reminders!

Child Pilot Profiles

As part of our ongoing safety review, we are asking all families to check and update their information in their Child Pilot profiles. If an issue arises with your child, we have several protocols in place, and having the most accurate and updated information is critical for ensuring their safety. Please take a moment to update the following:

  1. Your current phone numbers and emails
  2. Your place of work (in case we cannot reach you via cell)
  3. At least one emergency contact who can pick up your child in an emergency
  4. Photographs for ALL contacts

Additionally, please update your Child Pilot profile with any new medications in the notes section, whether for acute or chronic conditions. If there are any changes related to chronic medical conditions or medication, please email info@montessoricenter.org immediately. While we hope this never happens, if we ever need to transport your child to a hospital and are unable to reach you, having their medication history is essential for their safety.

Thank you for helping us keep your child safe!

Read-a-Thon!

The Paper Pie (formerly Usborne Books) Read-a-Thon is in full swing! Packets have been sent home with your student—if you didn’t receive one, please let us know. Please note the deadline for this event is Friday, October 18th. All proceeds will go toward free books for your child and their classroom.

Charity Drive Updates

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our charity drives to support the western North Carolina communities affected by Hurricane Helene. The destruction they are facing is unimaginable, and every bit of help is very much needed. As is often the case, donations tend to decrease after the initial disaster response, so please stay tuned for future drives as new needs arise. Special thanks to the Community Engagement Committee for coordinating these efforts.

Our MAP students, originally scheduled to attend Earthshine Camp near Asheville for their fall overnight team-building trip, have changed destinations due to road conditions. However, they will still be supporting Earthshine's recovery and plan to visit for their end-of-year trip. This trip may also offer our students an opportunity to bring additional supplies to areas still in recovery.

Flu Clinic

The owners of Coates and Angier Pharmacies will be hosting our annual flu shot clinic at the school on Wednesday, October 23, from 2 - 4 PM. To register for this clinic, use the link below to select a time, and be sure to indicate whether it's for a child (ages 7 & up) or an adult. Also, please bring your insurance card and ID. Please note that a guardian must be present with a child for the vaccine.

Fall is in the Air!

Fall is in the air, and it’s time to cozy up! 🍂 As the cooler weather rolls in, don’t forget to swap out your child's spare clothes at school for some warmer layers.

Have a wonderful week, and enjoy the fall weather!

Best wishes,

Julie
