Health Policies
As we enter a season when illnesses often circulate throughout schools and communities, I want to take a moment to review our health policies.
While we understand the challenges families face when a child is ill and needs to stay home, please know that we handle these situations thoughtfully and only request a child is picked up if we feel it is necessary. Since we are not qualified to diagnose illnesses or differentiate between contagious or incommunicable symptoms, we must err on the side of caution, especially when known contagions are circulating in the school. While illnesses are inevitable, allowing them to spread unchecked can result in prolonged cycles of sickness and absences that can impact the entire classroom for many weeks. To help prevent this, we depend on you to keep your child home if they are unwell.
As a reminder, if your child does unfortunately become ill with a fever or vomiting, please keep your child home for at least 24 hours after the last episode.
Having said that, allergies and other chronic conditions can also mimic symptoms similar to contagious illnesses. Please provide a note from a medical doctor if this is the case, as we don’t want your child to have to remain home unnecessarily!
We are required to announce the presence of certain illnesses if they occur in the classroom. To help us track this information and identify patterns that may require announcements or additional monitoring, we ask that you inform your child’s teachers via Child Pilot if your child will be absent due to an illness. Please include specific information on their symptoms or diagnosis.
As we now have two reported cases of COVID-19 in the Nido and UE rooms, I wanted to highlight our updated Covid protocols. Those who have tested positive should be symptom-free for at least 48 hours before returning. If your child returns to school before the 10th day from the onset of symptoms, we ask that they wear a mask until the 10th day, if developmentally appropriate.
For more information on DHHS guidelines for returning to school after an illness, please visit the School Policies and Resources section on our Parent Resource page. Please note that this information is currently under review pending licensing updates and is subject to change. We will provide an update if necessary and include the revised protocols in the upcoming Parent Handbook.
Thank you all for your cooperation in helping to keep our classrooms as healthy as possible. Your efforts not only reduce exposure for our children and teachers but also lead to fewer absences and disruptions in the long run!
