Welcome to your weekly source of updates, news, and reminders!

Science Night Out

We are excited to invite you to Science Night Out (SNO) on Friday, October 11th.

From 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, students will have the opportunity to explore science through hands-on activities, decorate their own event t-shirt, and enjoy dinner and dessert with friends while enjoying story time near a campfire.

Siblings are welcome too. Even if they don’t attend The New School, they can still join in for an additional fee.

Make sure to register and submit payment by Monday, September 30th. Payments will be billed directly to your ChildPilot account. Please remember to complete a separate form for each child attending.

Read-a-Thon!

We’re just one week away from our annual Read-a-Thon! Pledge packets and additional information will be coming home this week. Please take a moment to read a brief message from the organizing committee below.

Join the Reach for the Stars!! Read-a-Thon and ignite a love for reading while supporting literacy! The goal is for participants to read (or be read to) for 300 minutes over two weeks, which breaks down to just 30 minutes a day. By collecting pledges from family and friends (no door-to-door solicitation), participants can raise funds to purchase Usborne and Kane Miller books. This is a fantastic opportunity to encourage daily reading habits while earning new books for your collection! Let’s reach for the stars together—one book at a time!

Fall Picnic Review

Our fall picnic was a resounding success! Thank you to everyone who came out and participated. We also owe a special thank you to Ms. Kim Lawyer, our event coordinator, along with our hard-working staff and parent volunteers who made this event a reality.

Please see the message below from the Fall Festival Event Committee:

Thank you to those who were able to join us at this year's Fall Picnic and those who volunteered to make this event a success. If you weren't able to join us, we missed you and hope you can make the next one!

A special thanks to the planning committee (staff): Lori, Laurel, Lexis, and Sydney and (parents): Cathleen Ford Neal, Dena Rogers, Sarah Benson, Alexandria Koban, Elena Broughton, Kelsey Borokhov, and Jassi Dhanjal.

If you have any feedback you'd like us to consider for future fall picnic events, please share them here

Campus Improvement Plan Update

Having successfully completed our water and sewer connections, we have stabilized our infrastructure and laid the groundwork for future improvements and expansion. Now, we are excited to embark on the next phase of our Campus Improvement Plan!

Several months ago, the town rezoned our school and others in the area to rural residential, which means we cannot make significant adjustments or improvements to our current building or property, nor can we construct additional buildings without first obtaining a special use permit. Therefore, our current focus is on navigating the rezoning process to allow for our ultimate campus plan to be implemented. We have almost completed the necessary work behind the scenes to submit the initial application. Once submitted, the process will involve several town meetings and will take several months to complete.

In conjunction with this, we are excited to announce our partnership with the Natural Learning Initiative through NC State University, who will assist us in developing our campus plan. I'll provide more details on this initiative and our collaborative planning in the near future. I’ll also keep you updated on our rezoning progress!

Have a wonderful week!

Best wishes,

Julie
