Dear VTT Families,

I hope you have been able to take full advantage of Vancouver’s summer season before we transition to the 2021-22 school year. I have relished enjoying the outdoors with my family these last few weeks and am including a picture taken on one of my hikes with our family dog, Phoenix. Preparations for the new school year are well underway and it is great to be back on campus.

The leadership team is working in close collaboration with public health, the Ministry of Education, ISABC and VTT’s medical advisory team to familiarize itself with the latest research and recommendations from Vancouver Coastal Health’s newly released formal school guidelines that will allow us to update school health and safety protocols.

We use public health guidelines to inform the decisions made around how to structure the school day and keep the school as safe as possible for all its occupants. Shortly before school begins, we will be communicating more details with our families about daily drop off and pick up procedures, under what circumstances parents will be allowed in the building, mask regulations, etc. As always, it is our goal to keep health and safety as a top priority in order for us to enjoy another very successful school year.

To assuage any scheduling concerns for the year, we will return to our pre-Covid schedule with drop off beginning at 8:15 and pick up between 3:15 and 3:30. As yesterday’s press conference clarified, masks will be mandatory for all staff and students in grades 4 and up and strongly recommended for all students in SK-3.

The importance of vaccinations has been strongly emphasized by public health and our medical advisory committee. This is a reminder to parents that all children can be vaccinated if their birth year is 2009 or earlier. While we respect every parent’s right to determine the health choices for their own children, the recent provincial restrictions for those who are unvaccinated means that there will be significant restrictions placed on students who are eligible, but not vaccinated. This may include ineligibility to participate in school field trips or play on school sports teams.

We look forward to sharing class lists with our families on September 9th. Similar to last year, we will be sharing the entire class list with you so that it removes the guesswork from knowing who is in class with your child. More information will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead as we plan for a successful new school year.

The entire VTT team is eager to welcome all of our students on September 13th. In the meantime, wishing you all a wonderful conclusion to the summer and an early Shana Tovah U’Metukah שנה טובה ומתוקה,

Emily
