SCOUTS IN ACTION...

PACK 65, SEYMOUR/OXFORD – Participated in the National Wreaths Across America Day on December 17, 2021. What is National Wreath Across America Day? Each December the mission is to Remember, Honor and Teach through coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,500 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. The Day recognizes veterans from the Revolutionary War to present day conflicts, our veterans are devoted sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, sisters, and brothers. They come from all backgrounds in life to place those lives on the line for our freedoms. Wreaths Across America’s mission touches the lives of thousands of school, scout, civic and religious groups. For more information on this opportunity contact Karl Best, Cubmaster, Pack 65.

TROOP 25B, SHELTON - recently had a nice cold night of camping. In the morning they worked on rank requirements and played some games. Then they headed up to Wallingford for some indoor go karting. Lots of fun. For more information on this opportunity contact Mark Sims, Troop 25B
THANK YOU to all our units who contribute photos and stories for "SCOUTS IN ACTION..." This section of our newsletter is dedicated to our units. Continue to submit your stories and pictures of what your unit is doing. Add a contact email so other leaders can contact you, and do what you did in their unit.
SAFETY MOMENT - FROSTBITE

Serious injuries can occur when it’s cold and you spend time working, playing, or sleeping outside, particularly if you are wet or your clothes are wet or too tight. Scouts should be instructed to inform an adult as soon as possible if they are at an event, winter camp, or troop campout and start experiencing any of the symptoms in this Safety Moment.

GENERAL INFORMATION
There are four degrees of severity from the cold, ranging from frost nip to frostbite. The extent of the injury will depend on the individual’s length of exposure, outside temperature, wind chill, and how the exposure is treated. Listed below from the University of Utah Health Burn Center* are frostbite severities and descriptions of the identification and severity of injury, characteristics, prevention, and treatment guidelines. For more information on this topic CLICK HERE
Scouts and their parents expect all Boy Scouts of America activities to be conducted safely. To ensure the safety of participants, the Boy Scouts of America expects leaders to use the four points of SAFE when delivering the Scouting program.

THE HOUSATONIC COUNCIL KLONDIKE DERBY
JANUARY 15, 2022
AT OSBORNEDALE STATE PARK

For many years, the Housatonic Council has held an annual winter Council‑wide Extravaganza for all Scout Troops. The title of “Klondike Derby” suggests cold weather, snow covered hills and large groups of hardy, well prepared Scouts, and adults out for a day of Unusual Scouting Challenges.

This year will be no exception. Scouts from all over our Council will once again rendezvous with sledges and komatiks to compete by patrol, of at least four members, for top honors and super prizes in this day‑long event.
TRINITY SOLAR CAN ASSIST YOUR UNIT

The Housatonic Council has a partnership with Trinity Solar and it can help the families, scouts and your troop.

Trinity Solar has offered to contribute:

  • A consultation is a meeting with the homeowner and a solar pro that will explain how it all works, what the savings will be and see if the home qualifies for the no cost program. The $100 is earned whether they go solar or not.

  • $1000 to the Council for every installation that they get from your efforts.
  • $ 500 of that will be deposited directly into your troop/unit account.
  • $ 500 will be used for operating costs and to go back into supporting the scouts.
