Dear Community Member,

As winter gives way to spring, our community finds itself at the start of a new season—one that invites reflection on where we’ve been and anticipation for what lies ahead. Even in moments of uncertainty and concern for those we care about, we are reminded how deeply connected we are to one another. Each year brings moments that show how Jewish life in St. Paul continues to grow, evolve, and renew itself through the people who shape it. In this edition, you’ll find stories that honor the past, welcome new energy, and look toward the future we are building together—one chapter at a time.

Shabbat Shalom,

The St. Paul Jewish Federation Team

01 | Exploring Jewish Panama

Travel with your friends at the St. Paul Federation!

Dan Sassenberg, Chief Development Officer, just returned from a wonderful exploratory trip to Panama, one of Latin America's most cohesive and influential Jewish communities. Joining Jewish professionals from across the U.S., Dan participated in an in-depth trip to explore a possible group trip destination. Highlights included exploring the historic Panama Canal, spending a beautiful Shabbat with local congregations, and sampling fantastic cuisine from several of the 40+ kosher restaurants in Panama. Trips like these can be once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to build meaningful connections and lifelong friends with fellow community members while immersing yourself in the joy of Jewish life in other countries.

Interested in joining us on a future global Jewish adventure? Email Dan at dsassenberg@stpaulfed.org to be added to our travel interest list. Let us know of any destinations that would pique your interest!

02 | 20th Anniversary of Shlichut

For two decades, the Shlichut program has brought young Israeli emissaries to St. Paul, creating lasting connections between our East Metro community and Israel. Through their stories, culture, and lived experiences, Shlichim have strengthened Jewish identity, built friendships, and helped our community feel closer to Israel.

On April 23, the St. Paul Jewish Federation will celebrate 20 years of Shlichim in St. Paul, honoring the many emissaries who have served here and the host families who welcomed them into their homes. In partnership with The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), the Minnesota JCC, Mount Zion Temple, Temple of Aaron, and Beth Jacob Congregation, we will welcome special guests—including former Shlichim returning to celebrate this milestone.

Join us for an evening recognizing the impact of this program and the relationships that have shaped our community for a generation.

Registration is required. Tickets are $50 for adults and $10 for children. The St. Paul Jewish Federation prides itself on inclusivity, if cost is a barrier please email Miles Hirson for confidential financial assistance.

03 | Celebrate 90 Years with Us

Join us for the St. Paul Jewish Federation’s 90th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. We’ll begin with a 6:00 PM reception with refreshments, followed by the Annual Meeting at 7:00 PM.

This year, we’ll reflect on 90 years of Jewish community-building in St. Paul—from the early days of the United Jewish Fund and Council to today’s St. Paul Jewish Federation. Together, generations of community members have come together to support one another, strengthen Jewish life in the East Metro, and respond to moments of need both locally and around the world.

All are welcome—come celebrate our past and help shape the future.

04 | Help Tell Our Community's Story

The St. Paul Jewish Federation is currently seeking a Marketing and Communications Manager to help shape how our community understands and engages with our work. This role partners closely with leadership to elevate the Federation’s brand, strengthen digital presence, promote events and initiatives, and communicate the impact of philanthropy across the East Metro and beyond.

The position oversees messaging across platforms—including email, social media, publications, and the Federation website—and works closely with our Development team to share the stories behind the programs and partnerships that strengthen Jewish life in our community.

If you—or someone in your network—has experience in marketing, communications, and project management and is excited about using those skills for meaningful community impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis through March 20.

05 | Statement on Iran

In light of the ongoing situation in Israel, the St. Paul Jewish Federation is closely monitoring developments and remains in communication with community partners and security officials.

Our primary concern is for the people of this community and the citizens of Israel, including our partners in Sovev Kinneret and loved ones across the region.

At this time, there is no known specific threat to the St. Paul Jewish community, but we continue to take appropriate precautions and remain vigilant.

We invite you to read our full statement from CEO David Kaplan, which includes additional information and guidance for community members. If you would like a more in-depth analysis from the Jewish Federations of North America, you may watch their briefing with Miri Eisen.

We believe no Jew should ever feel alone.

We ensure the lasting presence of an inclusive, vibrant Jewish community in St. Paul.
