I Do, I Will: The Promises We Make and the Life We Live
Summer Worship Series
June 29 through August 31
Every time someone joins the church, we ask them to make promises. Some of those promises are ancient and sacred: Do you renounce the devil and all his works? Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and put your whole trust in his grace? Will you serve him as your Lord and walk in his ways by the grace and power of the Holy Spirit?
Others are deeply practical: Will you be faithful to Christ through this congregation—through your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?
Each time someone says “I do” or “I will,” it echoes a beautiful truth: the Christian life is not just about believing something privately. It’s about living something publicly. Following Jesus is more than a label; it’s a lifelong journey of commitment, joy, and transformation.
This summer at Perry Methodist Church, we will dive into a new sermon series titled “I Do, I Will: The Promises We Make and the Life We Live.” Each week from June 29 to August 31, we’ll reflect on one of the promises made in baptism and membership—and explore how the Gospel of Luke invites us to live that promise out in real life.
Through Jesus’ powerful teachings—like the parable of the Good Samaritan, the Lord’s Prayer, the story of the woman healed on the Sabbath, or the warning about “bigger barns”—we’ll see how each vow calls us into deeper discipleship. These stories may be familiar, but we believe they have fresh power when heard in the context of the promises we’ve made to God and to each other.
We’ll talk about what it means to renounce evil in a world that normalizes it, to pray with boldness and persistence, to show up when it matters, and to serve and witness with humility and courage. We’ll be reminded that these promises aren’t a checklist—they’re a way of life empowered by grace.
Whether you’ve been a member for decades or are brand new to the church, this series is for you. It’s a chance to revisit your vows—not with guilt or pressure, but with gratitude and vision. What a gift to be part of a church that takes its commitments seriously and joyfully.
So come be part of it. Come be reminded of what you said “I do” and “I will” to. Come experience God’s grace and grow deeper in the life we’re called to live together.
We’ll see you in worship—every Sunday at 9:00 or 11:00 a.m.—as we walk this road together.
Grace and Peace ,
Tom
