Sea Legs

by Lisa Sheirer

Opening Reception Saturday September 7, 5-8pm

Artist Talk Sunday, September 8 at 2pm

Show Runs: September 7 – October 27, 2024

Lisa Sheirer has been creating art for over 40 years. She works in a wide variety of mediums. The natural world has long been the foundational concept of her work. Awareness of the flora, fauna, microflora, water, and soil comes from hiking in her neighboring watershed, the ancient Catoctin Mountains. Sheirer goes almost daily into the watershed, documenting life there. Her work concerns our local, regional, national, and world environments. Sheirer’s focused study and artistic expression of our natural environment helps us gain awareness of ecological rhythms and change, as we gain our sea legs in an evolving world.

Original works from three different series are being shown for the Sea Legs show: "Stratem" and "Sequence" series are primarily ink paintings, "Thinking of the Future" works are collages. All are ongoing series.

“Sea Legs is a collection of work produced over the last three years. The idiom ‘sea legs’ refers to walking steadily on a ship, especially in rough seas, or adjusting to a new situation. The challenge of making art is to steadily move people into a mode of respect for our wild environments by celebrating its beauty. These wild places are our lungs, hearts, and medicine.”
