Different Location, Same Brown Elephant.

Serving as our home for the past 25 years, this summer we said goodbye to the Brown Elephant Resale Shop's flagship store located at 3651 N. Halsted Street. Over the years, together with our staff, shoppers and donors, we have made some incredible memories and also helped the community.

Now it's time to create a legacy at our new flagship store located at 3020 N. Lincoln Avenue, which is only a mile away from our old Halsted store. Nestled in the Lakeview neighborhood between W. Wellington and W. Barry Ave, this location is accessible from both the Paulina and Wellington Brown Line CTA.

"We're really happy to have the opportunity to offer shoppers, donors and staff a bright and inviting space to showcase all the amazing items that folks are kind of enough to donate, says Bill Joure, Howard Brown Health Center's Senior Director of Retail Operations. He adds, "We're working to learn our new neighborhood and make sure we're reflecting the kind of offering shoppers have come to expect of the Brown Elephant."

David Ernesto Munar, Howard Brown Health Center's President and CEO envisions that this new location is better suited for retail operations, but can double as an event space.

"The Lincoln location's flexible floor plan and private offices will allow us to host community events and on-site services, which will essentially enhance our ability to meet the health needs of LGBTQ people and our allies," he says.

And while our flagship store's locale may be different, we want to be clear: We're still the same Brown Elephant store with the same character and friendly staff you've loved for years. Most important, we're the still same trusted spot to score the coolest vintage stuff, everyday, from clothing to electronics to furniture.

Our mission remains the same too.

Created in 1980s by Howard Brown Health Center, the revenue generated by donations and purchases at the Brown Elephant Shops help fund numerous health care services for the more than 50% of HBHC's clients who are under or uninsured. HBHC offers an array of programs that include HIV/AIDS testing, breast and cervical care, elder services, primary health care, youth services, violence recovery programs and transgender programs to name a few.

So we ask that you come visit us at our 3020 N. Lincoln Avenue store and continue to keep shopping for a cause at all of our Brown Elephant locations throughout the city.

Three Questions For...Kevin Chase

How well do you know the Brown Elephant staff?

We sat down with Kevin Chase, our Lincoln location General Manager, to get the scoop on his personal style and what he loves best about the Brown Elephant.

HBHC: What designers inspire you?

KC: For men, I love anything Burberry. They are simple, classic and never go out of style.

For women, it's Lanvin hands down. These clothes fit women perfectly, always hitting the right place from the sleeves to the neckline. Plus, so many of their designs require hand sewing and you can tell the difference, because the attention to detail is insane.

If we were to run into you on the street, what would you be wearing?

Something that was a mix of sporty, edgy and urban; basically reflecting the way I grew up here, but also my experiences living in New York City. I'm really into denim, especially interesting washes, anything leather and cool accessories such as a big watch or a cuff. I'd probably also have on a hat, which could be anything from a baseball cap, newsboy or a fedora.

What do you love most about the Brown Elephant?

I've worked here for six years and honestly what I love the variety of items that are donated. It can range from the most ridiculous velvet painting of a sad clown to a gorgeous Hermes chaise. This type of dichotomy keeps it really interesting. It's pretty awesome.
