BSAC Member Sat on the
BPS Superintendent Search Committee
We are thrilled to welcome Brenda Cassellius as the new superintendent of the Boston Public Schools.  For the first time ever, a YOB/BSAC member sat on the selection committee for the superintendent as an equal partner with school committee members, the BTU president, teachers, and parents.

YOB/BSAC members developed criteria and questions in which to evaluate each candidate and submitted written findings to the school committee before the final decision.  Our criteria was:
  • Put Students First
  • Support Students in Reaching Their Full Potential
  • Support Student Feedback in Teacher Evaluations
  • Be a Diverse, Culturally Competent Leader
  • Champion Equity and Quality for All Students
  • Promote Just and Fair Schools
  • Reduce Opportunity (Achievement) Gaps
  • Family and Community Engagement
  • Successful Management Experience
  • Facilities Maintenance Experience
  • Instructional Leadership
  • Sustain Current and Effective Practices
Dr. Cassellius was our  top choice  and we appreciated her commitment to student voice as well as her thoughtfulness about equity and school closings, and her focus on building strong community relationships.

We look forward to working with Superintendent Cassellius in the near future.
