The Latest Report on Museums and Trust is Out Now!
Historically, museums have been shown to be highly trusted institutions. To see how that tracks in today's polarized world, when trust in most sources of information is declining, AAM enlisted Wilkening Consulting to ask the American public whether and why they trust US museums. The main results are summarized in the new report, Museums and Trust 2021.

A few highlights stand out on the levels of trust in museums:

  • For respondents who had visited a museum in the past two years, museums are the number one trusted source of information—and that is consistent for museums of all types, from art museums to zoos.

  • The report examined trust through the lenses of race and ethnicity, political affiliation, and attitudes towards inclusion—and has details on each.

  • There is robust, nonpartisan support for museums.
