The Secret Place - Part 1

"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalms 91:1) God has a secret, hiding place and all of us are invited to join Him there. It is an invitation sent out to everyone to come and join Him in that secret dwelling place of the Most High God.
I have always sensed that there is a secret place, a place to be discovered and a place that would open doors of divine surprise for me. I understand that the secret place is within. God created us to be spirit, soul, and body, in the image of God. Because of sin, the light in our soul was turned off and we were left separated from God. At salvation, God reenters our inner life to establish a private place to reveal himself to us. It becomes the place of His presence. When we turn inwardly, we discover that the light in the secret place has been turned on and the presence of God fills the house. Jean Danielou, the French Jesuit, describes the attraction of the presence of God. “The total Presence is like an inward weight that irresistibly attracts the Christian towards the Divine Presence.”

While studying this subject, I came across an amazing article by John Parsons concerning the Most High God mentioned in Psalms 91.
Parsons says that’s one of the great Hebrew names of God is El Elyon, often translated as God "Most High." The name "Elyon" is a derivative of a root word that means "to ascend."
“The sages say that Moses wrote Psalm 91 as he dwelt in the secret place of the Most High God, in the "midst of the dark cloud" (Exod. 24:18), a place of sacred and holy concealment. The thick clouds are a "hiding place" for him (Job 22:14). Notice that the one who "abides" in the secret of the Most High dwells in an ascended place of rest – being lifted up above the surrounding madness of this fallen world of flux and shadows. The Hebrew word means to lodge or to "sleep", connecting it with death and resurrection. By dwelling in the death and resurrection of Yeshua, God will shield you with His Presence and make evil powerless before you.”

Do you, like me, have this sense that God loves the game of ‘hide and seek’? Isaiah says that God hides Himself in this world. “Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.” (Isa. 45:15) He hides Himself in the secret place awaiting those that would venture away from their busy lives to seek and find that place.
When you "abide" in the secret place of Elyon, the Ascended One, you are concealed by the dark clouds of His Glory and His presence overshadows you. That is the place I seek, the place I have found.
When we enter that door, which we can at any time, it leads you into the place of His presence and glory.
There's one thing above all else that God wants from His people, that is to know His presence. He desires us to know and experience His presence in our lives. He desires that we understand that He is with us, though we might not real that at times.
What is the secret place? It is a place of glory, power, protection, intimacy, quiet, rest and transformation.
