Vicar Sharai's Message
Habakkuk is writing after the Assyrians conquered northern Israel, and before the Babylonian Empire reached Judah. Witnessing the violence of conquest, Habakkuk accuses God, “O Lord, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not listen?” How do we find hope when misery is all around us? When we cry out to God, but the misery continues, we may feel discouraged. God’s answer to Habakkuk is a promise that there will be an end to this pain, and a command to be patient and live by faith. By the end of his prayer, Habakkuk rejoices in the Lord, but how does Habakkuk find hope in God’s answer?
Lord, like Habakkuk we are weary. We find it hard to see the end of the world’s suffering. Help us to find the joy that Habakkuk found in waiting for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
