Youth Ministry this year is shifting focus and energy. Much thought and intention has gone into these changes. We aspire to meet the ministry needs of today's youth and provide them with the tools they need to navigate this world as Christians in a safe environment. We think the move will enable more youth to participate in this increasingly busy world. This format will help provide a strong foundation for discipleship with emphasis on education, Christian Mission, and community.
I'd like to tell you in brief about the youth formation and how Youth Ministry looks this 2019-2020 year.
The main shifts can be seen in three areas:
- Bibles and Breakfast: Placing emphasis on engaging Christian Education - Bibles and Breakfast will be held most Sundays between the services (10:10-10:50). Middle School will follow an engaging and more humorous re:form curriculum which goes into Bible, faith, and church. The High School group will find engaging and interactive Bible study through Echo the Story. Of course, light breakfast (doughnuts anyone?) will be provided. Click here to register.
- Fellowship Dinners: The first Sunday of each month, we will host fellowship dinners for the youth. We will have fun discussion and enjoy company in Christian community. We will ask for a $5 donation per dinner and the youth will get fed! The first one is on September 8 at 5pm in the Annex!
- Service Sundays!: Once a month, the youth will engage in a project with a local nonprofit that is 100 percent volunteer and engages youth in Christian Mission. All of the hours spent can count towards service hours needed at school. Join us on September 15 to help at the Sprout Therapeutic Riding Center in Aldie between 2 and 5. Parents are welcome too!
We are guided by our Sustainable Youth Ministry Committee, Youth Mentors, and Youth Leaders as we discern how to minister with and for our Youth in covenant community. My gratitude for the countless hours of volunteer work that have gone into our Youth here and my gratitude for the Youth at St. David's!.
