New Timekeeping System
Beginning 5/1, civil service employees will use Cal Employee Connect (CEC) for timesheets and will no longer input time in Dayforce. This new system should be simple and easy-to-use!
HR will hold two trainings for CEC timesheets next week:
Tuesday, 4/26, 9:00am
Wednesday, 4/27, 9:00am

Two Weeks Left in Special Open Enrollment
Don't forget that a Special Open Enrollment ends 4/30/22, for eligible employees who are not enrolled into a state-sponsored CalPERS health plan and will no longer be receiving the $260 monthly Improving Affordability and Access to Healthcare (IAAH) benefit. This will allow eligible employees the option to enroll into the FlexElect or CoBen cash option in lieu of health and/or dental benefits. This Special Open Enrollment is for FlexElect and CoBen cash options only. For additional information on the FlexElect or CoBen cash option benefits, visit the CalHR benefits page.

Johanna Prucha McCarthy is the new Marketing Manager in the Communications and Public Relations Department. Johanna, who has worked at CEA for almost 9 years, is very familiar with our messaging and methods, yet she continues to bring fresh energy and insight to the Communications and Public Relations Department. She started her new role last week and will no doubt accept a congratulatory tub of ice-cream!

Sesha Chilamkurthi, a database engineer for IT within the Internal Operations department, recently earned the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Fundamentals Certification. This certification track will aid in bolstering his already deep understanding of this product. This knowledge growth will be essential to the continued success of CEA projects that depend on this software. Congratulations!

Internal Audit
Human Resources (HR) is going through an internal audit to ensure CEA is compliant with laws, rules, and regulations. HR is working to ensure the Official Personnel Files (OPF) are current and up-to-date, therefore we are requesting all staff to complete this CEA 33 form, and email it to HR no later than 5/1. Please note, it is the responsibility of the employee to ensure the CEA 33 is accurate and up-to-date.
Supervisors will receive a copy of each of their staff's form which will be retained in within a secured location. If you have any questions, please reach out to the HR office for assistance.

Ridgecrest Numbers:
The Breakdown
We told you last week that claims from the 2019 Ridgecrest Earthquakes were officially done. Now this week, we're breaking down what these numbers mean.
Why were there so many claims reported and so few claims paid?
There are two primary and related reasons why we see more claims reported than are ultimately paid in a damaging earthquake. First, an insured will not necessarily know if the damage they have experienced will exceed the policy deductible. By filing a claim, an adjuster will be assigned to make that assessment. Second, even if the policyholder does know that the damage will not exceed the deductible, by law, FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. FEMA requires proof that you have filed a claim with your insurance company before it will consider a request for assistance.
Why is the average reimbursement $20K, what did that generally cover?
Most of the losses paid covered damage to dwelling structures–both homeowners and mobile-home owners. Payments for contents and additional living expenses were significantly smaller, reflecting that CEA coverage limits are less for these coverages and that, in most cases, policyholders were able to remain in their homes. The range of the size of payments is very wide— from minor (e.g., under $1,500 for emergency repairs) to large (e.g., over $400,000 for a total loss.)

Earthquake Simulator Demonstrates M7.1 Quake
California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) rolled into Sacramento last week with their earthquake simulator to help families prepare for the Big One. The stop was part of Cal OES' statewide tour for California Earthquake Preparedness Month. The four-seat simulator demonstrated what a M7.1 earthquake would feel like. Spoiler alert: There would be a lot of shaking. And while the event was fun, workers also stressed the importance of being prepared and staying safe when the ground starts to shake. You can read more about the event here on the Community page of StrengthenMyHouse.com.
|
|
And while we're on the subject of preparedness, we want to encourage you to take steps to make your home safer. Steps such as restocking your emergency supply kit or “go bag;” making sure that heavy objects in your home are strapped or bolted down; and determining whether your home—if it was built before 1980—is in need of a seismic retrofit. When it comes to retrofitting, check out StrengthenMyHouse.com for all the information you need to know.
