New Traffic Pattern Scheduled for 1/24

New Traffic Control

On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 9 p.m. southbound McKinley will be reduced to one lane from SR-91 to Estelle Street. The eastbound off-ramp on SR-91 will also be reduced to two lanes, one lane for left turns and one lane for right turns. During implementation of this new traffic pattern, the signals at McKinley Street and Sampson Avenue will be on flash. Flaggers will be on-site to assist motorists

These closures will be in addition to the existing one lane closure on northbound McKinley Street from Magnolia Avenue to Sampson Avenue.

This new traffic control pattern on McKinley Street will remain in place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for approximately one year.

With McKinley Street now reduced to one lane both northbound and southbound through the majority of the project area, please remember to obey all traffic signs and allow for extra travel time. Speeding through parking lots to skip traffic is illegal. Your efforts keep our crews safe and our construction on schedule.

Right Turn Only on Eastbound Sampson Avenue at Buchanan Street

In conjunction to the changes to McKinley Street, crews will be adding additional "Right Turn Only" signage on eastbound Sampson approaching Buchanan Street. Drivers are reminded to obey all traffic signs and make right turns only onto Buchanan Street.

Project Overview

The McKinley Street Grade Separation Project is set to change the way you travel through McKinley Street.

City of Corona residents and commuters experience significant traffic congestion daily on McKinley Street. To improve this, a suspension bridge will be built elevating McKinley Street over the BNSF railroad tracks and Arlington Channel. Construction will extend from State Route 91 on the north side to Magnolia Avenue on the south side.

Once complete, the project will relieve traffic congestion, improve mobility and safety for both motorists and pedestrians, as well as improve emergency response times, air quality and noise. Expected project completion is Winter 2023/24.

91 Refresh Project: Construction of the 91 Refresh project in Corona is continuing this week, requiring nighttime lane reductions and closures of connectors and ramps, January 18-21, weather permitting.

Lincoln Street Resurfacing: The contractor is scheduled to finish removing existing pavement and paving new asphalt on Lincoln Street from Indiana Avenue to Magnolia Avenue in the home gardens area.
