On April 22, the Center for Effective Public Policy (CEPP), which manages the Community Supervision Resource Center (CSRC), received notice that our funding for CSRC from the Office of Justice Programs under the U.S. Department of Justice had been terminated, effective immediately. This action was part of a broader, sweeping rollback affecting over 350 organizations working to advance justice, equity, and public safety nationwide. This cut is more than a budget decision—it’s a direct hit to our mission and your profession. It jeopardizes the evidence-based tools, training, and resources the CSRC provides to help jurisdictions build effective and appropriate supervision strategies and systems.
What happens now?
-
The CSRC website will remain available until further notice. Over 1,000 of you visit the site each day. Even without federal funding, CEPP is committed to keeping this site active for as long as possible.
-
The CSRC Community will also remain available until further notice. However, CEPP will no longer moderate the conversations, vet users, or contribute regularly.
- While the site remains available, it will not be updated. No new resources will be added to the library, and no new events or opportunities for the field will be announced.
- The CSRC will not develop any new resources.
- We can no longer offer no-cost technical assistance to the field. Our ongoing technical assistance to 40+ jurisdictions will cease immediately.
- Our free virtual trainings for the community supervision field will no longer be offered through the CSRC. CEPP, however, will host the training scheduled for April 30th and possibly the May training. More details below.
When funding like this disappears, jurisdictions lose expert guidance, staff miss out on training opportunities, and people under supervision and their communities may suffer. We cannot—and will not—allow that to happen.
Nearly 500 of you have already registered for our upcoming webinar on Strengthening Community Supervision on April 30, 2025, from 1 to 2:30 pm ET. We hear you, and we will support you! Even in the absence of federal funding, this training will happen as planned. Space is limited to 500 participants, so if you haven’t registered yet, don’t worry — sign up anyway, and we’ll send you the recording.
We’ll share more information soon about our upcoming Effective Case Planning and Management training, originally scheduled for May 27.
As we continue to navigate this situation, we welcome your questions. Please reply to this email, and we will respond as soon as we can.
Our collective voice still matters. If you feel strongly about the loss of the CSRC and what it provided, we invite you to share your perspective with those who are in a position to effect change.
Thank you for the vital work you do in your jurisdictions to keep communities safe and support people under supervision in achieving success in their lives.
In continued partnership,
Alison Shames and Leilah Gilligan
