New Fostering Growth Mindset Training for Youth Development Providers 

Did you know that when children have a growth mindset, they are more likely to do well in school and can more effectively handle setbacks and challenges? Do you know if YOU have a growth mindset?

Fostering a growth mindset enhances the supportive environment your program staff seeks to create. In Project RISE's new Fostering Growth Mindset training, you will learn about growth mindset characteristics and benefits as well as strategies that will help foster a growth mindset culture within your youth development community.

The Training will take place February 5, from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Gang Alternative Inc.'s Building Leaders of Character Program

This week, we are featuring Gang Alternative, Inc. and its Building Leaders of Character (BLOC) program funded by The Trust. BLOC is an after-school program that supports and empowers youth to realize their full potential, regardless of whether they are high-risk or gifted. The program serves students at three community sites in Little Haiti, North Miami and Homestead. Some examples of support may include core subject tutoring, SAT/ACT prep and personalized learning techniques that aim to help participants study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. High school students attend Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-6 p.m., and middle school students attend Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6:30 p.m. Free transportation is available for qualifying students. Free Youth Mental Health First Aid Training In January & February *

Project Bridge offers a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course to adults interacting with teens or parents of adolescents. The 6.5-hour course aims to raise mental health awareness, focusing on behavioral health, addictions and recognizing early warning signs. State Grants for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Initiative

The Department of Children and Families (DCF) Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) providse support to implement The Facts. Your Future. Prevention Initiative that aligns with the State of Florida’s goals to prevent opioid abuse, utilizing department-provided and branded resources and materials in response to the opioid crisis in the state. Eligibility is limited to 501(c)(3), not for profit organizations providing youth-focused activities; a licensed prevention provider who is licensed through the department must submit a copy of their department-issued license. Safe in the 305 Grants Available; Application Assistance Zoom in Jan.

The Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) is proud to present another round of Safe in the 305, a Miami-Dade County Peace & Prosperity Plan initiative. Safe in the 305 is designed to encourage residents and community stakeholders to promote peace and prosperity by funding community-driven actions that make their own neighborhoods safer. Mockingbird Foundation Music Grants for Children

The Mockingbird Foundation, Inc. Grants program is to support music education for children. Early Childhood Grants Available from Caplan Foundation

The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood is offering grants to support research and development projects that appear likely to improve the welfare of young children, from infancy through 7 years, in the United States. Eligibility is limited to organizations with 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt Status from the IRS. Application deadline is January 31.

Invite Your Students to Enter All Kids Included Art Competition

The Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs All Kids Included (AKI) program is inviting all Miami-Dade students in grades Pre-K-12 to submit original artwork depicting the competition theme and are asked to draw on the competition's selected book for inspiration. The theme for 2025 is inspired by the book, I Will Dance written by Nancy Bo Flood and illustrated by Julianna Swaney. Eligibility is open to all Miami-Dade students in grades Pre-K-12. Award Ceiling: $250 Blick Art Supply Card. Deadline to submit artwork is February 1.

Maternal and Child Health Secondary Data Analysis Research Grants Available

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) (MCH SDAR) Maternal and Child Health Secondary Data Analysis Research grants are available to support research that analyzes existing national data sets or administrative records to answer questions that can improve the health and well-being of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) populations, including children and adolescents with Autism/Developmental Disabilities (DD). Eligibility is limited to nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education; Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments); and public or non-profit institutions of higher learning (i.e., education) and public or private non-profit agencies engaged in research or in programs relating to maternal and child health and/or services for children with special health care needs. Award Ceiling: $60,000. Applications must be submitted by February 25.

Autism Secondary Data Analysis Research Grants Available

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Autism Secondary Data Analysis Research (Autism SDAR) grants are available to support applied research through analysis of existing databases or administrative records to improve health outcomes, and the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of health care services for children and adolescents with autism and other developmental disabilities (DD) across the lifespan. Eligibility is limited to city, township, county, special district, and state governments; Native American tribal governments and organizations; independent school districts; private, public, and state-controlled institutions of higher education; for-profit organizations; small businesses; and any public or private entity, including research centers or networks. Applications must be submitted by February 25.

The Life Time Kids Run Miami program is entering its 20th year, and the program hopes to welcome students to be a part of the action! The Life Time Kids Run Miami program encourages children and middle school students, ages 6-13, to run 25.2 miles over 15 weeks, culminating at the Life Time Miami Marathon & Half presented by FP Movement (February 2, 2025) with the Final Mile event where all participants will earn their own medal!

Complimentary to Miami-Dade County schools, the Life Time Kids Run Miami program aims to help reduce the health risks and conditions that kids face today by promoting physical education and an active lifestyle through running, and it is their goal to involve as many children as possible from start to finish.

Assistant Site Director: Responsible for efficiently and effectively delivering programs and services directly affecting Breakthrough Miami Scholars and families. An ASD oversees campus or site logistics, unpaid student volunteers, and some stipended positions, such as Teaching Fellows. As an ambassador of the program, the ASD builds supportive relationships with students, parents, schools, the community, and other stakeholders to ensure the academic and socio-enrichment success of all Breakthrough Scholars. 

Summer Instructional Coaches: Summer Instructional Coaches (ICs) are experienced and successful professional educators who provide content specific support for BTM Teaching Fellows throughout the summer and engage fully in the BTM community. ICs dictate the level of academic rigor during Breakthrough Miami’s summer program through their interactions with Teaching Fellows. They effectively communicate content specifics to Teaching Fellows, guide Fellows through effective planning and execution, and hold both Fellows and students to the highest standards. ICs are expected to lead department meetings, visit Fellows’ classes at least twice a week, evaluate lesson plans and curriculum overviews, and meet individually with Fellows regarding their on-going work. Since ICs are the only professional teachers on-site, they are accountable for the quality of instruction students receive, and are responsible for supporting BTM Teaching Fellows through their teaching experiences. This position will begin on June 7, 2025 and will end on August 1, 2025.

Summer Site Coordinators: Summer Site Coordinators (SSCs) are critical members of the summer administrative team and help ensure the smooth and safe operations of the Summer Institute at their assigned site. SSCs train, coordinate and oversee volunteers; supervise the summer food service program for Scholars and staff; order and keep an inventory of program supplies; coordinate general office administration; manage the Scholar drop off and pick up process; and assist with the execution of special events. This position will begin on June 7, 2025 and will end on August 1, 2025.

Summer Assistant Site Directors: Summer Assistant Site Directors (SASDs) work collaboratively with full-time directors at their assigned site to ensure a successful Summer Institute; and work closely with Scholars and their families, as well as Teaching Fellows to ensure their needs are met. SASDs assist with the coordination and management of student attendance and reporting; management of student information in the Breakthrough Miami student database; student discipline and conduct; Teaching Fellow training and professional development; implementation of the Teaching Assistant program; preparation of major events, including Visitors Day, Family Night, and other events as scheduled; and program evaluations during the final ten days of programming. This position will begin on June 7, 2025 and will end on August 1, 2025.

The Natural Helper is responsible for providing assistance to the Families CAN! project by assuming responsibility for obtaining and maintaining programmatic and financial records related to Advocacy Network’s In-Home Supports and Emergency Financial Assistance Programs. Training and Experience Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent; proficient in Microsoft Office – especially Word, Excel, and Outlook; and a minimum of two years’ experience working in an office setting – preferably in a non-profit.
