New Trust Safety Webpages

Last year, the Law Society implemented amended Rules regarding the approval and management of trust accounts by Alberta lawyers. The new Rules were realigned to better suit the lifecycle of a trust account and incorporate modern practices and technologies used by law firms in Alberta.

The Trust Safety section of our website has now been realigned to match the lifecycle of a trust account as well. This change will make it easier for Responsible Lawyers (RLs) to navigate their accountabilities at every stage of trust account management, from getting approval as an RL to annual reporting to trust account closure.

Canadian Multiculturalism Day – June 27, 2023

Canadian Multiculturalism Day is a time for Canadians to celebrate our cultural diversity and reaffirm our commitments to equity, inclusion and mutual respect for one another.

Multiculturalism is a cornerstone of our provincial and national identity. In 2046, Alberta is expected to add an additional two million people to its population while becoming increasingly diverse, as arrivals from other countries account for about 55 per cent of the expected growth over the projection period.

This day of recognition is part of the 'Celebrate Canada' days, which highlight our ethnic, linguistic, cultural and regional diversity, and help make Canada a truly welcoming country. More than summer celebrations, they are opportunities to reflect on our values, our past and our future as a society.

Here are a few resources to help you learn more and celebrate:
