Your Monthly Chapter Update: January 2025

BIA San Bernardino County Chapter Members -

Thank you for placing your trust and confidence in me as your President of the San Bernardino County Chapter of the BIA. It was a pleasure seeing everyone at our Installation Gala at Pechanga last year. Congratulations once again to the 2025 Board of Directors—I’m excited to continue working with each of you as we embark on another productive year.

A special congratulations and heartfelt thank you to Ryan Combe for his exceptional leadership as Chapter President over the past two years. Ryan, your enthusiasm and passion for our industry are truly unmatched. While we will miss your leadership, I know you’ll continue to be the life of the party at future BIA events. You’ve been a great friend and mentor, and I sincerely appreciate the trust you’ve placed in me to follow in your large footsteps.

As we look ahead, I am optimistic about the future of our industry this coming year. California is in a housing affordability crisis, making the American Dream of homeownership increasingly more difficult. The growing demand for attainable new housing presents a tremendous opportunity for our industry to expand, while providing the homes and infrastructure necessary for our thriving communities. However, we also face significant challenges, as competing interests continue to drive up the complexity and cost of building new homes in California. I look forward to collaborating with Carlos, Jeff, and the rest of our exceptional BIA team to advocate for policies and engage with leaders that support and promote the goals of our industry.

Here’s to a successful and impactful year ahead! I know Laura and the BIA staff have planned another fantastic lineup of events and networking opportunities. I can’t wait to see you all soon!

ACT NOW

Protect Our Homes and Communities

Insurance companies are leaving California rapidly, leaving many residents needing help to afford or obtain home insurance as rates increase. This crisis directly impacts our building industry and makes homeownership more difficult for families statewide, making homeownership unattainable.

TAKE ACTION

As members of BIASC, your voices matter and can make a difference in resolving this crisis. Here’s how you can help.

Please click the link below to urge your local elected officials to support passing an emergency resolution. We need the Insurance Commissioner, the Governor, and the State Legislature to declare a state of emergency and pass immediate regulatory and legislative measures to reform these policies.

Proposed DIF Increase in Rancho Cucamonga

BIASC has been notified of a proposed transportation DIF in the City of Rancho Cucamonga, which has skyrocketed from the current $12,708 per single family unit to a proposed DIF study calculation of $35,470 based on a standard size 2,500 SFR unit, based on their updating the projects, growth projections and costing methodology. (CLICK HERE for the Study - See summary table on page 24.) This new proposal transportation DIF proposal is double the $17,358 proposed last year, which was delayed after the BIA’s initial inquiries. The City is proposing implementation of these new DIFs in early 2025.

BIASC wants to hear from you on how this increase could potentially impact your current or future projects. Our advocacy team will engage but we want to better understand the impacts on our members. Please reach out to Ana Gromis at agromis@biasc.org to discuss further. Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
