Governmental Affairs and builder advocacy continue to be the primary focus of the San Bernardino County Chapter. We are engaged with jurisdictions throughout the region on numerous issues. Several updates include:

  • Energy Committee - As we navigate the dynamic landscape of the building industry, it is imperative that we actively engage in discussions with utilities to streamline the development process and address infrastructure needs. We recognize the high-priority nature of this endeavor. As such, we are excited to announce the formation of our Energy Committee, dedicated to fostering proactive discussions with utilities across the region. By participating in this committee, you will contribute to the development of efficient processes and the implementation of robust infrastructure to support current and future projects. If you share our commitment to shaping the future of our industry, we invite you to join our working group. For further details and to express your interest, please contact Ana Gromis at [email protected] Your participation is vital to the success of our collective efforts. We look forward to collaborating with you in ensuring a resilient and progressive future for the building industry throughout Southern California.

  • Ontario fee reduction sunset: the Ontario Building Department fee reductions approved by the City Council in May 2023 are scheduled to expire with the new fiscal year (7/1/24). Please find the fees proposed to revert to their previous amounts. CLICK HERE

  •  Affordable Housing: Local cities are actively grappling with the continued state-required affordable housing mandates. Unfortunately, those state mandates come without any new funding sources, causing communities to look to the home building industry as the primary funding source via inclusionary housing policies and fees. While we understand the difficult challenge local governments face achieving affordable housing goals, taxing new home buyers to cover those costs will only make homes more expensive and put home ownership out of reach for even more people, making the problem worse. We are currently monitoring new inclusionary housing fee proposals in several cities where our goal remains to make sure the policy has an in-lieu fee option and that the new fee is as low as possible.

  • Elections 2024: Don’t forget to vote on today’s March 2024 primary! We hope you join us in supporting Proposition 1. Our commitment to supporting Proposition 1 is not merely about endorsing a proposition; it's a pledge to elevate our role and influence within the building industry to benefit and support our veterans

Why Proposition 1 Matters

  • Provides mental health treatment facilities and supportive housing for homeless veterans.
  • Leverages existing tax revenues and dedicates $1 billion to support veterans.
  • Endorsed by the California Building Industry Association and the California Chamber of Commerce.

As you might be aware, BIASC has already demonstrated our commitment through new programs like hosting the first "Meet the Veteran" at our building industry show (BIS) and supporting state and local legislation to help veterans housing. BIASC's veteran's initiative is not just about hosting events; it's about creating pathways for veterans into the building industry, offering them career opportunities and the chance at a new start. We've pledged to make a difference in the lives of our veterans, and with Proposition 1, we can turn that pledge into action.

Let's make today a landmark day for our veterans and our industry.

The San Bernardino County Chapter will continue to be focused on industry advocacy and keeping San Bernardino County and our local cities a great place to build much needed housing. If you see an emerging issue you want to make sure the chapter is monitoring, please feel free to email your thoughts to [email protected]
