Dear Families of 8th-10th Grade Students,
As a reminder, this year we are excited to include all 8th through 10th grade students in their conferences this year, to begin taking ownership of their learning. Please plan on attending with your students and make sure to sign up if you haven't yet. Linked below, you will find key documents that will help your child prepare to present at their conference this January.
VPA Student Growth Plan
- On the front page of the Student Growth Plan is a series of items for the student to fill out, in conversation with his or her parents.
- The heart of this is the learning goal that the student will work on for the second semester. This learning goal should not be simply to "get better grades," but to develop some skill or habit of study that will serve them as a student. Guidance for completing the Student Growth Plan is on the second page of the document.
SGP Action Menu
- This document provides a wealth of ideas to fill in the SGP category, How will you achieve this goal?
- Keep in mind, this list is intended to provide inspiration; no student can be expected to complete all of these actions. The student should choose a specific and achievable set of actions, using this list as a basis.
Once you have received your teachers' evaluations, review them with your child. Using that information from teachers, along with your own conversation with your child, please help your child complete the Student Growth Plan.
The finished product will be presented to the team of teachers and parents at the student's conference in January. At that time, the team will review the plan and, over the course of the semester, they will help your child to meet his or her goals for growth.
Because this is new for all of us this year, I expect you will have questions. Please do not hesitate your questions to Mr. Austin and Mrs. Mercado.
