Office of the President

February 2, 2023

Dear William Paterson Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. George Kacenga will join William Paterson later this month as our new Vice President for Enrollment Management. He brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education leadership, most recently at the higher education services provider M Square Media (MSM), where he serves as Assistant Vice President in the Global Marketing Office.

Prior to MSM, George served as Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Executive Director of Global Engagement at Purdue University Northwest and spent seven years at the University of Colorado Denver as Director of International Enrollment Management. Earlier in his career, he held increasingly senior admission and financial aid roles at Saint Vincent College, Point Park University, and the University of Pittsburgh. He is also an adjunct instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University and is currently an International Education Leadership Fellow at the University at Albany School of Education.

His appointment comes after a successful visit to campus during which he met with Cabinet and leaders of AFT, Faculty Senate, and the Division of Enrollment Management. He also presented his vision for William Paterson and answered questions at an online Town Hall for faculty and staff. There was wide agreement across these constituencies that he has the necessary skill set, as well as a firm understanding of enrollment trends both nationally and in the northeast, to stabilize our main campus enrollments, while also moving us into promising new markets, such as international students and adult learners.

George earned his Bachelor’s degree in Communication and M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and his Ph.D. in Social and Comparative Analysis in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. He attributes his passion for higher education to his personal college journey, which saw him and his mother complete their bachelor degrees just a few years apart. He will be joining us starting on February 27. He will also be on campus today to attend my State of the University address and First Thursday, so please take the opportunity to say hello and welcome him to William Paterson. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Richard J. Helldobler, Ph.D.
