Chakana set out to make a Malbec that stood out above all others when they came up with the Ayni project. We knew from the start that the juice would be amazing and the cost would be higher, but what we did not know was if the extra dollars were going to be justified.
After trying the wine, simply saying the juice justifies the cost is an understatement. The wine is outright amazing. If I could re-taste this wine for the first time again, I would toss it in a blind tasting with some $90+ Malbec and I'm confident the Ayni would hold up to the competition.
The success of this wine comes straight from the vineyard and its management. The winemaker discovered what he calls "the optimum Malbec soil with the perfect amount of irrigation". We can't argue with him after tasting this ripe juice.
Dark purple in the glass with blackcurrant and chocolate aromas on the nose. On the palate it is every bit of full-bodied with a silky mouth-feel. Black fruit flavors along with very light hints of oak merge together on a long ripe finish.
Drink now or over the next 7 or 8 years. I enjoy Malbec best in their youth, 2 or 3 years of bottles age.
