Capturing KM Talks Skin Sutures And College Credits In KMHS' Science Class
Guest Host Principal Justin Bestor talks with Melissa Kirby, Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science Educator, while her class learns firsthand about suturing from a Carroll University instructor!
Congratulations to KMSD teachers Alyssa Basthemer (High School of Health Sciences), and Barb Shaver (KM Explore) on earning their National Board Certifications, and to Ashley Bestor (Cushing Elementary) for recertifying!

National Board Standards represent a consensus among educators about what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. Board certification is available in 25 certificate areas spanning 16 disciplines from Pre-K through 12th grade. The rigorous certification process requires teachers to demonstrate standards-based evidence of the positive effect they have on student learning in alignment with the Five Core Propositions. They must exhibit a deep understanding of their students, content knowledge, use of data and assessments and teaching practice. They must also show they participate in learning communities and provide evidence of ongoing reflection and continuous learning.

“Roughly three percent of teachers in the country hold this prestigious honor, and Kettle Moraine has 14 in our district!” said Superintendent Stephen Plum. “We are so proud of all our board certified staff and congratulate Barb, Ashley and Alyssa on their amazing accomplishments.”
